Job description
Job Summary

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Events Manager to join our Care Team at Shooting Star Childrens Hospices.

Shooting Star Childrens Hospices provides specialist care and support to families who have a baby, child or young person with a life‑limiting condition, or whose child has died. Rated Outstanding by the Care Quality Commission, we support families across Surrey, north‑west London and south‑west London from diagnosis to end of life and throughout bereavement with a range of nursing, practical, emotional and medical care.

Our Care Events Team offers an extensive programme of groups and events for the 800 life‑limited children, their families and bereaved families. There are themed family events, social groups for siblings of different ages, pamper days for mums, counselling groups, a bereavement cafe, memorial days and many festive events such as ice‑skating at Hampton Court. We hold 5–6 events each week, providing important opportunities for families to make memories together.

About Us

Our specialist care and support is free of charge to families and available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. It includes specialist nursing, symptom management, overnight respite stays, end‑of‑life care and a comprehensive range of therapies, groups and clinics for the whole family. At the heart of what we do are our dedicated staff; their exceptional commitment and professionalism mean every family has the opportunity to make every moment count.

Responsibilities
  • Designing and implementing an annual programme of family wellness events, support groups and therapy groups that delivers excellent care and support to children and family members, both at the hospices and venues in the neighbourhoods we serve.
  • Ensuring the Care Events Team understands the current and emerging needs of children, young people and families through close working with care services, identifying themes, and through continuous individual learning.
  • Managing the Care Events Team and responsibility for event teams delivering events across both hospices and community venues.
  • Line‑managing and developing a large group of Care Events Volunteers, who are key support in the delivery of events.
  • Attending the weekly Psychosocial Leads Clinic and working alongside Psychosocial Leads to create and achieve annual objectives focused on safe and effective psychosocial care.
  • Working alongside allied health professionals and the in‑house team, coordinating a daily experiences schedule at Christophers, so that play, stimulating and therapeutic activities enhance the quality of care and development of children and young people in our care.
  • Ensuring Care Events attendance at MDTs and key meetings, providing updates and managing individual referrals to care events.
  • Planning and delivering wishes requested by children with life‑limiting conditions.
  • Working with the care, fundraising and corporate teams to achieve a good interface that enhances care provision, upholds our values and supports each other’s objectives for positive, cohesive working across the charity.
  • Enabling families who do and don’t attend groups and events to share their views and experiences so they shape this aspect of SSCH care, making it as accessible and impactful as possible.
  • Governance: reviewing policies, processes and completing audits to strive for the highest quality care.
  • Producing an annual report including stakeholder input, learning, plans and aspirations.
