Job summary

5 Star Recruitment is seeking a Care Assistant (Residential) to support residents with personal care and daily activities in a calm, homely environment. You will help with dressing, bathing, feeding and mobility, while promoting independence and dignity for each resident.

The role involves working weekends and bank holidays, with day hours between 08:00 and 22:00. You will participate in care plans, liaise with health professionals, and contribute to a supportive team culture.

Qualifications

  • Nursing-related qualifications or the ability to demonstrate competence in care tasks.
  • Formal nursing qualifications and/or equivalent practical care training.
  • Ability to work without close supervision in a residential setting.
  • Commitment to equality and diversity and health and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out routine care tasks for residents, including personal care.
  • Assist with washing, dressing, bathing and feeding as needed.
  • Support social activities and help residents maintain contact with family.
  • Assist with domestic duties and maintaining a clean, homely atmosphere.
  • Escort residents within/right outside the establishment when required.
  • Attend relevant training and work with care teams to meet individual plans.
  • Assist with administration of medication where appropriate.

Education

City & Guilds in practical or home nursing
NVQ Level 2 in Direct Care
In-service course in Social Care

About the job Care Assistant (Residential)

Purpose

To carry out a range of tasks in support of, or the delivery of, the service.

Scope of Work

Role holders will undertake a range of routine procedures and use associated tools and equipment. Some personal initiative may be required.

Accountabilities/Responsibilities:

  • Physical tasks include: washing, dressing, bathing and feeding clients, including those with special needs arising from physical or mental deterioration
  • Social duties include: talking to and motivating clients, helping clients to maintain contact with family and community, assisting with shopping, and organising group social activities
  • Assisting in the creation of a supportive and homely atmosphere where clients can achieve maximum independence
  • Co-operating with domestic staff to best meet the personal needs of the client
  • Where appropriate, contributing to the establishment records, including support plans
  • Escorting clients outside the establishment as required, e.g. to hospital, opticians etc
  • Attending relevant training courses as agreed with the management staff
  • Acting in a general supervisory capacity with students and volunteers
  • Assisting with laundry duties and care of client's items including emptying and cleaning commodes, making and changing beds, cleaning and tidying lockers
  • Caring for the dying and attending to the needs of the deceased person and their relatives
  • Assisting management with the administration of medication

Skills, knowledge and experience

Experience or the ability to demonstrate the competence to carry out of the job.

Possession of, or the ability to demonstrate the capability to gain, relevant certificates of competence or equivalent where applicable.

The ability to work without close supervision.

In addition to the skills, knowledge and experience described above, you may be required to undertake a lower graded role as appropriate.

Performance Indicators

Completion of tasks to required standards and deadlines.

Qualifications

City & Guilds in practical or home nursing

NVQ Level 2 in Direct Care or commitment to study to achieve the qualification

In-service course in Social Care

Preliminary course in Social Care

Experience

Care of elderly persons

Working in a residential setting

Ability to promote and participate in recreational activities

Knowledge and skills

Knowledge of First Aid

Ability to work as part of a team

Awareness of Health and Safety requirements

Knowledge of the cultures and religions of the local community; ability to work across cultures

Understanding of basic care tasks, i.e. bathing, toileting, feeding

Ability to liaise with other health care professionals

Other (including special requirements)

Day hours are between 08.00 and 22.00

Some domestic duties and occasional escort duties involved
