PA required for a young woman in Middlesbrough. To provide care and support for a friendly, independent young woman with complex and life-limiting medical conditions. The main aim is to support the young lady to stay as independent as possible and reduce the amount of hospital admissions by delivering high quality care in her home. It is essential that she has the support to stay independent in the community and make use of the ‘good days’ while she can with the support.

Job role includes:

  • General day-to-day support and domestic tasks within the home, assist with dog walks, arranging prescriptions and appointments, assistance with shopping, trips out when the client is well enough, assistance to hospital appointments, and assistance to enjoy time with her niece and nephews at home or on days out.
  • Medication administration, 1–2–1 observations as the client is severely unwell, and the ability to recognise when health is declining, etc.
  • Hospital admissions: to assist the client during hospital admissions with personal care, ensuring care needs are being met, and general company.
  • All training will be provided on medication administration and the management of her overall care package needs. (No formal training required, but experience would be an advantage.)

PA working hours/rota:

  • 8:30–11:30 am – Help client from bed/bedroom and with personal care & dressing, administer medications, help walk the client’s dog, and clean/tidy where required.
  • 1:30–5:00 pm – Help client on social outings for shopping etc. (as & when planned) or complete other household tasks if the client is unwell/tired. Assist with shopping tasks/medication collection and feed/walk the dogs with the client.
  • 8:15–9:15 pm – Assist client to bed, give appropriate medications and ensure all medical equipment is at hand.
  • Night shifts – For the client’s safety: if the client presents as unwell, PA would agree to stay overnight or be ‘on call’ if required.
  • Overtime hours – as & when required.
  • Shadow/Trial shifts initially with a 12‑week probationary period. Scope at the end of the 12 weeks to progress onto a contract with the client.

Skills/Competencies:

  • Full DBS
  • Full Driving Licence (ability to drive an automatic motability car)
  • Mobility support & transfers using appropriate equipment
  • Personal Care
  • Administering medications as required
  • Support with medical appointments (if required)
  • Hoist/slide mat experience preferred but training can be given
  • Experience would be an advantage, but it is more important that the candidate is patient, kind, loyal, trustworthy and reliable.
  • The ideal candidate would have a person‑centred approach which is sensitive to the client’s needs and preferences and a good understanding of confidentiality. Attentive and observant but also with the ability to use your own initiative and anticipate the client’s needs.
  • Must be dog‑friendly and comfortable with looking after them as will be required to help with feeding, walking, etc when the client is unwell.
