Job summary

Metabolic in Knightsbridge, London, is seeking a GMC-registered Consultant Cardiologist to join our private clinic on a part-time basis. You will assess and manage patients with cardiovascular risk factors and disease within a metabolic care pathway, leading cardiology clinics and interpreting tests.

You will collaborate with endocrinology and other teams to deliver integrated care, align with NICE guidance, and contribute to service development while ensuring patient-centered communication.

Qualifications

  • Primary medical qualification (MBBS, MBChB or equivalent).
  • Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) or equivalent.
  • Full GMC registration with a licence to practise.
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Cardiology (via CCT/CESR or equivalent).
  • Substantial post-CCT experience in general and preventative cardiology.
  • Right to work in the United Kingdom.
  • Satisfactory Enhanced DBS check.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive cardiology assessments for patients referred through the metabolic care pathway.
  • Request, perform, review and interpret ECGs, echocardiograms, ambulatory monitoring and exercise tolerance tests.
  • Identify and risk‑stratify patients with hypertension, dyslipidaemia, arrhythmia and CAD in the context of metabolic disease.
  • Develop and adjust treatment plans in line with NICE guidance and national recommendations.
  • Explain diagnoses, test results and treatment options to patients in clear terms.
  • Obtain informed consent for procedures and investigations in line with GMC guidance.
  • Support patients in understanding cardiovascular risk in relation to metabolic health.
  • Collaborate with endocrinologists, dietitians and nurses to deliver joined-up care.
  • Work in MDT meetings to discuss complex cases and shared management plans.
  • Provide specialist cardiology advice and contribute to integrated clinical pathways.
  • Liaise with GPs and external providers on shared patients and discharge planning.

Metabolic is a specialist private clinic in Knightsbridge, London. We deliver integrated care for people with diabetes, obesity, cardiometabolic disease and related metabolic conditions. Our multidisciplinary team combines clinical expertise with continuous monitoring technology and a patient-centred model of care.

Role Summary

We are looking for a GMC-registered Consultant Cardiologist to join our team on a part-time basis. You will assess and manage patients with cardiovascular risk factors and cardiac disease alongside our diabetes, obesity and metabolic specialists. You will lead cardiology clinics, interpret diagnostic tests and contribute to multidisciplinary decision-making, shared care planning and service development.

Core Responsibilities

1. Clinical Assessment and Diagnostics

  • Conduct comprehensive cardiology assessments for patients referred through the metabolic care pathway.
  • Request, perform, review and interpret ECGs, echocardiograms, ambulatory monitoring and exercise tolerance tests.
  • Identify and risk-stratify patients with hypertension, dyslipidaemia, arrhythmia and coronary artery disease in the context of metabolic disease.
  • Develop and adjust treatment plans in line with current NICE guidance, British Cardiovascular Society recommendations and other relevant national guidance

2. Patient Care and Communication

  • Explain diagnoses, test results and treatment options to patients in clear, accessible terms.
  • Obtain informed consent for procedures and investigations in line with GMC guidance.
  • Support patients in understanding how cardiovascular risk connects to their broader metabolic health.
  • Communicate sensitively when findings are significant or unexpected.

3. Collaboration and Multidisciplinary Working

  • Work closely with endocrinologists, dietitians, specialist nurses and other allied health professionals to deliver joined-up care.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss complex cases and agree shared management plans.
  • Provide specialist cardiology advice to colleagues and contribute to the development of integrated clinical pathways
  • Liaise with GPs and external providers on shared patients, referrals and discharge planning.

4. Quality, Safety and Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with Care Quality Commission (CQC) Fundamental Standards and contribute to inspection readiness.
  • Practise in accordance with the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014 and all applicable professional standards.
  • Follow safeguarding procedures for children and vulnerable adults, including mandatory training to the required level.
  • Maintain resuscitation competencies appropriate to the role in accordance with local policy and Resuscitation Council UK guidance.
  • Handle patient information in line with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.

5. Professional and Administrative Duties

  • Maintain accurate, timely and complete patient records.
  • Maintain continuing professional development in accordance with General Medical Council requirements and participate fully in annual appraisal and GMC revalidation.
  • Hold appropriate professional indemnity cover at all times.
  • Complete mandatory training including Basic Life Support, information governance and infection prevention and control.

Registration

  • Full GMC registration with a licence to practise.
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Cardiology, held via CCT, CESR or a recognised equivalent.

Experience

  • Substantial post-CCT (or equivalent) experience in general and preventative cardiology.
  • Experience in preventative cardiology, cardiovascular risk assessment, echocardiography, ambulatory monitoring and the management of complex cardiometabolic disease is desirable.
  • Right to work in the United Kingdom.
  • Satisfactory Enhanced DBS check.
