Job summary

Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust in Walsall is seeking an experienced Cardiac Physiologist Lead (Band 8a) to provide clinical, professional and operational leadership across the Cardiac Physiology service within the Clinical Measurement Unit. The role combines senior leadership with an active clinical role to deliver high-quality cardiac diagnostics.

You will shape the service, develop the workforce and pathways, and work with respiratory clinicians and system partners.

Main duties of the job

As the Cardiac Physiology Lead, you will Provide clinical, professional and operational leadership for Cardiac Physiology service. Maintain an active advanced clinical role, undertaking and reporting highly specialised cardiac investigations.Lead the delivery of cardiac diagnostics, Echocardiography, Stress Echo, LVO/bubble studies, ECG, Ambulatory ECG , stress ECG and analysis, Device clinics and implantation. Provide expert clinical advice and ensure abnormal findings and clinical concerns are appropriately escalated.Lead workforce development, competency, training and professional development. Oversee service performance, capacity and diagnostic waiting times, including delivery against national standards. Lead clinical governance, quality assurance, risk management and continuous service improvement. Support innovation, pathway redesign and development of sustainable cardiac services.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will act as the Trusts lead specialist for Cardiac Physiology, providing expert clinical and professional leadership across Cardiac diagnostics service. You will be responsible for the day-to-day delivery and development of the service, ensuring effective use of workforce and capacity while maintaining high standards of patient safety, quality and clinical governance. A key part of the role will be developing and supporting the cardiac physiology workforce, strengthening quality and competency frameworks and working collaboratively across the organisation and with partner services. We are particularly keen to hear from experienced senior Cardiac Physiologists who are passionate about clinical excellence, developing people and improving services for patients.

Qualifications

• BSc Clinical Physiology Cardiology or equivalent qualification/ experience
• Evidence of advanced specialist training within Respiratory Physiology
• Evidence of continued professional development relevant to cardiac diagnostics and leadership

Knowledge and experience

• Significant experience working as a Senior Cardiac Physiologist within a specialist Cardiac diagnostic Service to Masters level or equivalent
• Extensive experience performing, analysing and reporting highly specialised cardiac investigations
• Experience of managing cardiac Physiology Team
• Experience of staff management including recruitment, appraisal, performance management, training and development
• Experience of managing service performance, including waiting lists, demand and capacity planning and delivery of national diagnostic standards
• Understanding of DM01, RTT and relevant NHS performance standards
• Experience of clinical governance, incident management, audit, risk management and quality improvement
• Knowledge of BSE departmental accreditation and IQIPS accreditation standards and relevant national professional standards
• Experience of service development, pathway redesign and implementing change
• Experience of working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and external partners
• Ability to provide expert clinical leadership within Cardiac Physiology
• Able to independently perform, interpret and provide advice on complex cardiac investigations
• Ability to manage operational pressures, prioritise workload and make autonomous decisions
