Salary Range

Up to £45,733, depending on relevant skills, knowledge, and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

Purpose of the Role

The BBC Media Operations Location team is at the heart of delivering incredible content across all our platforms for all audiences. The team is responsible for resourcing and supporting outside broadcasts for Radio, News and for Production Services that supply and support kit to self‑shooters. We work on some of the BBC’s highest‑profile events ranging from music (Glastonbury, the Proms) to sport (Euros, Olympics) to news (coverage of party conferences, elections, and breaking news events).

As Base Manager for Media Operations Location you will play a key role coordinating the daily running of base operations. You will facilitate site safety, team engagement, clear communication, growth and enthusiasm within the base. You will ensure that all resources—equipment, personnel and vehicle requirements—are allocated to deliver operational and broadcast support while anticipating and addressing potential issues. You will also act as the on‑site manager and deputise for the Operations Manager as and when needed.

Key Responsibilities and Impact
  • Engage and build relationships with operational staff, internal and external service providers such as facilities management and broadcast equipment hire companies; ensure clear, timely communication and liaison with operational team, planners, Operations Managers and other stakeholders.
  • Ensure health and safety practices and compliance requirements are observed and understood.
  • Effectively manage and grow the team through positive leadership, including carrying out Personal Development Reviews (PDRs) for direct reports where appropriate; ensure the team makes best use of business systems and processes to provide the most efficient way of working, keeping those systems up-to-date.
  • Lead and coordinate the workload of the base team; take on line‑management responsibility for day‑to‑day logistics, allocation, and stores functions to ensure that the right equipment is in the right place at the right time, with a proactive approach.
  • Work closely with the Fleet and Transport Operations team to ensure vehicle and driver scheduling, maintenance, and compliance with all relevant legislation.
Location

Old Trafford, Manchester (the role may also be based in other BBC locations as required).

Hours and Working Pattern

1 pm – 10 pm, Monday – Thursday; 1 pm – 6 pm Friday (4.5‑day week). The role is full‑time.
