Job summary

An international NGO is seeking experienced barristers to join their pro bono team to assist with capital cases in Uganda. Responsibilities include advising on appeals and conducting remote conferences. Ideal candidates are committed barristers with over five years of experience in criminal law. This is a remote position.

Evolve is a criminal justice development organisation led by barristers in the UK working pro bono to improve access to justice and build the capacity of criminal advocates (defence and prosecution), judges, and institutions in Uganda through the provision of training and mentoring.

Responsibilities

• Join the existing capital cases pro bono team to assist with capital cases at the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court of Uganda.
• Advise on the merits of an appeal against conviction.
• Conduct remote case conferences and assist Ugandan advocates with drafting written submissions.
• Training materials, an initial induction and supervision will be provided.
