Capital Accounting Assistant – Capex Finance Performance
Circa £32,085 dependent on skills and experience

As a Capital Accounting Assistant within the Capex Finance Performance team, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the delivery of financial performance insight, reporting, and analysis across Anglian Water’s multi-billion capital programme. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a keen eye for detail, strong financial acumen, and a proactive approach to thrive in a complex operational and regulatory environment. You will be responsible for ensuring the timely and accurate delivery of capex finance data and reporting, as well as upholding robust financial controls and governance.

You will join a collaborative team of Capital Accounting Assistants, supporting both the finance team and the wider business in financial reporting, month-end processing, budgeting, forecasting, and cost and performance analysis. The role champions standardisation, automation, efficiency, and compliance, with a strong focus on innovation and technology to maximise opportunities. You will also be instrumental in supporting the asset commissioning process and driving continuous improvement in health and safety standards.

Key responsibilities
  • Assist with preparation of monthly management accounts, ensuring accuracy and adherence to deadlines.
  • Post journals, accruals, and prepayments accurately; review and report on capex accruals and prepayments.
  • Reconcile key balance sheet accounts and investigate variances.
  • Collaborate on budgeting and forecasting, monitoring performance against targets and highlighting variances.
  • Analyse capex costs, identify trends or anomalies, and provide insights to improve efficiency and support investment decisions.
  • Ensure compliance with financial controls, internal policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Support asset commissioning and contribute to systems-based improvements (e.g., SAP/S4).
  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement in Health & Safety, maintaining high standards and compliance.

  • Part qualified accountant (CIMA, ACCA or ACA).
