Overview

Competitive starting salary range from £25,204 up to £27,818 per annum, plus London Allowance (dependent upon experience) with potential to progress. A discretionary range for candidates with exceptional experience can be discussed/considered.

This position is based in Dagenham with travel to all London campuses (Middlesex Street, Vauxhall and Greenwich).

The Role

Coventry University is seeking a proactive and skilled Campus Services Technician with an NVQ Level 3 Electrical Qualification to join our dedicated Estates team. Covering our London campuses in Whitechapel, Vauxhall, Greenwich and Dagenham you will play a vital role in maintaining safe, efficient, and high-quality environments that support exceptional teaching and learning experiences.

As a Campus Services Technician, you will be responsible for delivering a wide range of reactive and planned maintenance tasks across our campus buildings. While a broad skill set in general maintenance is essential, interested applicants must have electrical experience, as a significant part of the role involves lighting maintenance and other related electrical systems.

You will work closely with the Campus Services Officer to ensure effective communication and a collaborative approach to delivering facilities services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Respond to maintenance requests swiftly and effectively, carrying out repairs to minimise operational disruption.
  • Undertake electrical maintenance including lighting repairs, LED upgrades, replacing damaged sockets and fittings, and ensuring compliance with safety standards and regulations.
  • Support Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) activities
  • Carry out minor repairs and maintenance such as decorating, plumbing, and general building repairs and maintain accurate records
  • Assist with room setups, office relocations, and event support as needed to keep campus operations running smoothly.
  • Oversee external contractors
  • Proactively identify, report, and resolve hazards, defects, or non-compliance issues.
  • Work closely with the Estates management team to communicate maintenance updates and priorities.

This post is full time working 37.5 hours per week, 07:00 – 15:30, working 5 days over 7, including some weekend cover. Flexibility would be required to meet business needs.

Our Successful Candidate

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

  • NVQ Level 3 Electrical Qualification (or equivalent) with proven experience in general building maintenance.
  • Working knowledge of lighting systems, electrical fault finding, and repairs.
  • Awareness of health & safety and statutory compliance (including fire systems, emergency lighting, and Legionella controls).
  • Ability to maintain detailed records and follow planned maintenance schedules.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a customer-focused approach.
  • Good communication and teamwork abilities
  • A relevant electrical qualification and/or maintenance certification would be advantageous.
