Job summary

The University of Sussex in Brighton seeks a part-time Facilities Porter to maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming campus environment. You will be based on campus, working Monday to Friday, 10am–2pm, and serve as the first point of contact for students, staff, and visitors.

Responsibilities include basic cleaning, minor maintenance tasks, safety checks, and handling mail and deliveries while upholding university policies and delivering excellent customer service.

Qualifications

• Must have Right to Work in the UK and willingness to undertake a DBS.
• Ability to communicate effectively and build rapport with residents and visitors.
• Reliable, punctual, and able to maintain a welcoming and professional demeanor.
• Proficient in basic admin tasks such as record-keeping, managing directories, and handling check-in/check-out processes.
• Capable of responding calmly and effectively to emergencies and unexpected situations.
• Willingness to collaborate across departments and maintain accuracy in all tasks.

Responsibilities

• Act as the first point of contact for residents and visitors, providing information, handling inquiries, and resolving issues.
• Conduct regular safety checks, respond to emergencies (fire, medical, security), and assist with evacuations.
• Receive, track, and distribute mail and packages, notifying residents of arrivals.
• Report maintenance issues and liaise with contractors or maintenance staff to ensure timely resolution.
• Build positive relationships with residents, address concerns professionally, and enforce University policies and conduct regulations.
