Job summary

Lancashire Independent Living Service in the Preston area is seeking a Personal Assistant to support a 12-year-old boy who is non-verbal and requires constant supervision, structured activities, and safe, engaging daily life.

You will work closely to support communication via Makaton and devices, assist with personal care and meals, and encourage independence through play, routines, and community outings. You will join a caring team dedicated to consistent, patient support.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting a child with autism or severe learning disabilities.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to maintain calm, patient, structured approach.

Responsibilities

• Provide constant supervision to ensure safety and wellbeing.
• Support communication using alternative methods (e.g., Makaton) at home and in the community.
• Assist with personal care and mealtimes.
• Encourage engagement in activities to develop independence.
• Respond to emotional and behavioural needs with consistent support.
