Job summary

Tesco Café in York is hiring a Team Member to join our cafe team. You’ll do a mix of cooking, serving customers, and keeping areas clean, while ensuring food safety standards are met and the menu is delivered accurately.

You’ll work with a friendly team, enjoy flexible hours, and have the chance to progress. A minimum of 8 guaranteed hours per week is offered, with shifts scheduled and three weeks’ notice. Applicants must be 18 or over.

Responsibilities

• Keep kitchen equipment and utensils clean and tidy.
• Serve customers quickly, efficiently and with care.

• Practise FIFO stock rotation to keep our food fresh.
• Accept deliveries and handle the safe storage of food.
• Follow all operational policies and procedures.
• Prepare, cook, and serve food according to our café menu.
• Ensure food products are available and standards are maintained.
• Know our café menu inside and out and serve food as intended.
• Resolve customer complaints and pass on information to the Café Manager.
• Stay up-to-date with business communications and new initiatives.
• Clear and sanitise tables to keep the café clean.

As a Team Member in our café, you're part of everything - a bit of cooking, a bit of chatting with customers, and a lot of impact. As someone dedicated to great service, you’ll make sure that every dish you prepare and serve lives up to the promise of our menu and meets all safety standards. Along with this, you’ll help keep everything, from kitchen equipment to customer tables tidy and clean.

It’s a lively role, full of everyday challenges, but that’s just one of the reasons it’s so exciting. A few other reasons include flexible working hours, opportunities for progression and so much more.

It’s our policy to offer new colleagues joining us a minimum of 8 guaranteed hours each week.

The table shows the periods of time in the week we’d like you to be available to work – the availability windows. We will schedule your contracted hours within these times, and you’ll have 3 weeks’ notice of exactly when your shifts will be. We are happy to support flexibility for our colleagues, therefore if the times you’re available to work match closely but not exactly to the times we are advertising, we’d still love to hear from you.
