Job summary

Heritage Portfolio is seeking a talented Café Supervisor for the V&A Dundee. You will support smooth, friendly, and professional operation of our Tatha restaurant and bar, conferences and hospitality events, and lead front-of-house teams.

This hands-on role combines leadership, organisation and customer service, with hours generally 0900–1730 and occasional evening events; you’ll train staff, manage stock, maintain food safety standards and ensure exceptional service.

Qualifications

• Previous supervisory or team leader experience in catering or hospitality.
• Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
• Strong interpersonal and communication abilities.
• Calm, customer-focused attitude for fast-paced service.
• Flexible approach to shift patterns.
• Proficient with Excel, Word and Outlook.
• Personal licence holder; First aider certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day FOH operations in dining areas and events.
• Lead and support the FOH team to maintain high service standards.
• Ensure food safety and hygiene compliance.
• Deliver excellent customer service and lead during service.
• Provide training and coaching to FOH staff.
• Assist back-of-house when needed and coordinate with teams.
• Manage stock control, orders, and admin tasks including records.
• Ensure health and safety procedures and allergen protocols are followed.

Job Introduction

Heritage Portfolio are looking for a talented and enthusiastic Café Supervisor at the V&A Dundee. As our Café Supervisor, you will be responsible for supporting the smooth, friendly, and professional operation of food services across our Tatha restaurant and bar, conferencing and hospitality events.

This is a hands-on role that combines leadership, organisation, and customer service, offering variety and impact every day.

Hours of work will predominately be 0900 – 1730, however there will be a requirement to support events business in evenings as required.

Main Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day FOH operations in dining areas and hospitality functions
• Supervise and support your team to maintain exceptional service standards
• Ensure food safety, cleanliness, and presentation meet company and legal standards
• Deliver excellent customer service and act as a visible point of leadership during service
• Provide training and coaching to FOH staff
• Support back-of-house service where needed, fostering collaboration across teams
• Manage stock control, ordering, and administration including cleaning and temperature records
• Ensure the team upholds all health & safety procedures and allergen protocols

The Ideal Candidate

• Previous experience in a supervisory or team leader role within catering or hospitality
• Excellent organisational and time-management skills
• Natural leader with strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Able to handle fast-paced service with a calm, customer-focused attitude
• Flexible approach to shift patterns
• Ensure that all Health & Safety legislation is carried out correctly and recorded as necessary. This includes all HACCP and COSHH responsibilities, as well as EHO visits, Fire Evacuation Procedure, First Aid at Work and safe working practices at all times. Maintain a focus on food allergens and customer information.
