Job summary

BakerHicks in the UK is seeking a CAD Technician to join the HV Overhead Line team and deliver high-quality design outputs for transmission and distribution projects.

Reporting to the OHL CAD Team Lead, you will produce OHL Wire Clearance Diagrams and related drawings, collaborate with engineers, and ensure accuracy, quality and timely delivery in a security-aware environment.

Qualifications

• Experience producing Overhead Line Wire Clearance Diagrams (essential).
• Proficiency in AutoCAD (2D & 3D); Bentley MicroStation/Civil 3D is advantageous.
• HNC/HND in engineering or equivalent.
• Strong organisation and ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Excellent communication and collaborative approach to working with colleagues and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Produce OHL Wire Clearance Diagrams, Insulator Set & Conductor Sub-system Drawings, Material Lists, and Route Plan Drawings.
• Develop detailed drawings, models, and technical documentation for HV transmission and distribution projects.
• Update and modify designs in accordance with client standards, specifications, and procedures.
• Work closely with engineers and multi-disciplinary teams to deliver coordinated and innovative design solutions.
• Ensure accuracy, quality, and compliance with CAD standards while meeting project deadlines.
• Support knowledge sharing within the team and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and Right First Time delivery.

Job description

BakerHicks has experienced significant growth within the Transmission & Distribution sector over the last decade, delivering exceptional engineering solutions across some of the UK's most important infrastructure projects. As we continue to expand, we are looking for a CAD Technician to join our HV Overhead Line (OHL) team within the Power Sector.

Reporting to the OHL CAD Team Lead, you will play an integral role in delivering high-quality design outputs for a range of transmission and distribution projects. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a collaborative and supportive team, contributing to projects across HV Overhead Lines, underground cables, and substations.

Please note: Experience producing Overhead Line (OHL) Wire Clearance Diagrams is essential for this role and will be a key consideration during the selection process.

Key Responsibilities

• Produce OHL Wire Clearance Diagrams, Insulator Set & Conductor Sub-system Drawings, Material Lists, and Route Plan Drawings.

About You

We are specifically looking for an experiencedCAD Technician with a strong background in producing Overhead Line (OHL) Wire Clearance Diagrams. This is a key requirement for the role, and candidates should be able to demonstrate hands-on experience delivering wire clearance drawings within transmission and distribution projects.

You will ideally have:

• Demonstrable experience within HV Transmission & Distribution, Overhead Lines, substations, or underground cable projects.
• Proven experience producing OHL Wire Clearance Diagrams (essential).
• Proficiency in AutoCAD (2D & 3D); experience with Bentley MicroStation, Civil 3D, or similar design software would be advantageous.
• HNC/HND qualification (or equivalent) in an engineering-related discipline.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
• Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach to working with colleagues and stakeholders.
• A proactive mindset with a keen eye for detail and commitment to delivering high-quality work.
