Job summary

A leading engineering consultancy in Leicester is seeking a CAD Technician to produce and update electrical schematics and documentation. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in AutoCAD Electrical and a good understanding of electrical components. This role involves ensuring accurate documentation and collaborating with engineering teams to improve CAD practices. Competitive salary in the range of £35k - £45k is offered.

Overview

CAD Technician • 35k - 45k • Leicester

Responsibilities

• Produce and update electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts using AutoCAD Electrical.
• Create and maintain drawing templates, symbol libraries, and project files within AutoCAD Electrical.
• Generate and update Bills of Materials (BOMs) and ensure documentation accuracy.
• Support engineers in the development of control system drawings and panel assembly documentation.
• Apply company and industry drawing standards to ensure consistency and quality.
• Ensure all drawings are properly filed, referenced, and version-controlled.
• Liaise with engineers, project managers, and manufacturing teams to clarify design intent and resolve drawing-related issues.
• Participate in design reviews and contribute to continuous improvement of CAD processes and practices.

Essential experience

• HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering, Design Engineering, or a related field.
• Strong experience using AutoCAD Electrical for producing electrical drawings and documentation.
• Good understanding of electrical components, wiring, and control panel layouts.
• Knowledge of drawing standards (BS, IEC, or UL) and electrical drafting conventions.
• Experience working within a multi-disciplinary engineering or manufacturing environment.
