A leading aerospace company in Portsmouth seeks an undergraduate Mechanical Engineering student for a placement role focused on CAD processes and stakeholder collaboration. You'll work on the DDMS Improvement Project and contribute to creating more efficient processes. The role offers a salary of £23,850 per annum and various flexible working benefits.
From initial system synoptics to detailed specifications, the Mechanical Design Office (MDO) supports these units by laying out all equipment and creating the RF connectivity designs (Waveguides and coaxial cables) within our spacecraft product lines. We use the Dassault suite of tools (Catia) to accommodate payload equipment in 3D and produce detailed routing and design of RF interconnections. This work is in accordance with the interface block diagram, including stress and thermal justification. Working with the Assembly, Integration, and Test department, we define payload assembly kitting, create installation drawings, and produce bills of materials to ensure our satellites can be assembled smoothly and efficiently. We also support testing activities by creating detailed definitions and designs for jigs, MGSE, and non-flight RF hardware. We are a key driver in the company's digital transformation, supporting the digitalisation of the end‑to‑end PLM flow and acting as a key player in product digitalisation and data continuity.
As a key member of the CAD Process team, you’ll work on the DDMS (Digital Design and Manufacturing Service) Improvement Project, specifying, developing, and documenting the process changes required to deploy a new toolset (3DExperience/Catia V6). You’ll collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders to create leaner ways of working and produce a comprehensive report presented to managers and other key stakeholders.
Undergraduate only for the whole duration of the placement. Please indicate your graduation date on your application.
