Job summary

Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks is seeking a CAD Engineer to join the Large Capital Delivery Team. The role focuses on producing detailed substation layouts, wiring diagrams, and related drawings for UK projects, with emphasis on safety and accuracy.

You will contribute to BIM standards, model libraries, and project options while acting as the main contact for graphical representation. A relevant engineering qualification and AutoCAD proficiency are required.

Qualifications

• Engineering qualification in a relevant subject (HND minimum).
• Experience with Autodesk AutoCAD software.
• Experience in high-voltage electrical project design (132kV).
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Full UK driving licence preferred.
• Proficiency in Revit, Vault and Civil 3D would be beneficial but not essential.

Base Location:

Perth, Dundee, Aberdeen, Glasgow, Inverness. You'll be expected to spend at least 50% of your working week in one of these locations.

Salary:

£50,964 - £60,899 + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

The role

We have an opportunity for a CAD Engineer to work as part of the Large Capital Delivery Team, which develops designs for a wide range of construction projects within the UK.

You will produce accurate plans, elevations, assembly layouts, operation diagrams, schematic and protection/wiring diagrams and other drawings, giving consideration to safety matters at all stages.

This role involves electrical substation, overhead line, underground cable, and subsea cable work.

You will

• Provide modelling, design, and drafting support on your assigned project(s) to develop and optimise Substation layouts to SSE requirements.


• Be involved in project options and development assessments, conceptual designs and developing work on BIM standards and model libraries.


• Be the main point of contact for all project graphical representation works.


• Develop models, drawings, schematics, diagrams, maps, and other documentation as required, on time and to requisite standards.

You have

• An engineering qualification in a relevant subject (HND minimum)


• Experienced and proficient with Autodesk AutoCAD software.


• Experience in the design and construction of high voltage electrical projects on distribution networks (up to and including 132kV).


• Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential.


• A full UK driving licence is preferred as there will be a requirement for regular travel to site.

We are also currently developing and implementing 3D modelling capabilities therefore proficiency in Revit, Vault and Civil 3D would be beneficial but not essential.
