About the Company

My client is a technical consultancy serving the global maritime sector. They provide independent technical evidence to support safer, more reliable, and commercially viable decisions across newbuilds, retrofits, and installation operations. Their projects span offshore energy, commercial shipping, passenger vessels, large yachts, and government and defence programmes. The company thrives on complex challenges that require innovative problem solving and offers a collaborative environment where fresh thinking in engineering, design, and project delivery is encouraged.

About the Role

The CAD Draughtsperson will be responsible for producing high-quality 2D and 3D CAD drawings and models across a range of maritime projects, including ship design, structural arrangements, marine engineering, and offshore infrastructure. Working closely with design and engineering teams, the role involves translating concepts into detailed drawings and models, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and quality throughout concept, detailed design, and fabrication phases. The role typically operates as a stand‑alone draughtsperson within multi‑disciplined teams, contributing across multiple projects and internal departments, providing technical support and innovative solutions for complex engineering challenges.

Key Responsibilities
  • Produce high-quality 2D and 3D CAD drawings and models using AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
  • Develop vessel arrangements, structural drawings, schematics, and safety plans.
  • Produce photo‑realistic renderings and visualisations using SolidWorks Visualise.
  • Ensure compliance with internal quality assurance processes, design standards, and specifications.
  • Interpret vessel system and machinery arrangement drawings.
  • Identify potential design issues early and propose corrective actions.
  • Stay up to date with CAD software developments and best practice techniques.
  • Work within multi‑disciplinary engineering teams and support the wider organisation’s projects.
Key Skills and Experience
  • Proven experience as a CAD Draughtsperson within the marine industry.
  • Proficient in 2D AutoCAD (minimum 3 years) and 3D SolidWorks (1–3 years), including PDM/Vault workflows.
  • Ability to produce renderings and detailed marine steelwork structural models.
  • Understanding of ship systems, vessel arrangements, and regulatory compliance (e.g., DNV, Lloyds Register, EN, ISO).
  • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Relevant qualifications such as BTEC Level 4 in Mechanical Engineering, or City & Guilds Level 3 in a CAD/engineering discipline (or equivalent experience).
Desirable
  • Experience with ship surveys, newbuilds, or vessel conversions.
  • Completion of SolidWorks or other CAD‑related certification programs.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced CAD Draughtsperson to join a technically focused company, contributing to a diverse range of challenging maritime projects and developing their expertise in a supportive and innovative environment.
