About the role

Project Manager (Cabling) - Power Transmission & Distribution | Balfour Beatty | North East England

Balfour Beatty's Power Transmission & Distribution team is growing - and we're looking for an experienced Project Manager (Cabling) to help deliver major infrastructure projects across the North East of England.

As a key part of our team, you'll play a leading role in planning, managing, and delivering high-quality cabling schemes safely, sustainably, and on time. You'll have full accountability for project success - from design and delivery through to commissioning and handover.

What you'll be doing
  • Conduct regular project reviews and maintain the Digital Briefcase.
  • Ensure accurate project documentation (progress, diaries, etc.).
  • Prepare and present reports to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Interpret and challenge technical inputs and designs.
  • Guide teams to deliver feasible and effective solutions.
  • Ensure reporting supports informed, cost-effective decisions.
  • Champion Zero Harm and stay current with legislation.
  • Lead safety tours, incident investigations, and RAMS reviews.
  • Maintain a live H&S plan and ensure workforce competency.
  • Empower teams to manage work safely and effectively.
  • Mentor and upskill team members.
  • Manage resource plans and coordinate internal functions.
  • Set team goals and development plans.
  • Build high-performing teams through training and motivation.
  • Own the Risk Register and lead reviews.
  • Escalate unresolved issues appropriately.
  • Manage subcontractors and ensure timely resource delivery.
  • Align procurement plans with project schedules.
  • Drive certification readiness and KPI achievement.
  • Lead audits and improvement initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain resource-loaded schedules.
  • Implement productivity controls and milestone tracking.
  • Control budget and resource efficiency.
  • Manage commercial changes and reporting routines.
  • Understand and deliver contractual obligations.
  • Promote consistent digital data use and standards.
  • Ensure team training and adoption of digital tools.
Who we're looking for

  • Experience of working on a variety of project types.
  • Ability to demonstrate a track record of project delivery.
  • In depth understanding and practical experience of standard forms of contracts.
  • Proficient in commercial/project management communications.
  • Experience in implementing safe systems of work.
  • Able to communicate effectively both verbal and written with all levels of the organisation.
  • Communicate new concepts and ideas to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Effective team management skills which empower, influence & inspire others to build effective teams, providing mentoring and support to members of the team where required.
  • Good knowledge of performance evaluation techniques and key metrics.
  • Record of a solution-based approach to problem solving.
  • Ability to see the business vision and inspire this shared vision amongst the team.
  • Discuss ideas and plans competently and with confidence.
  • Sponsor and promote project diversity and inclusion.
  • Recognise and drive personal development with a learning mindset.
  • Member of a professional management body i.e. APM.
  • Proficient on O365.
  • Holds a current driving licence.

The role holder is likely to have one or more of the following:

  • Formal qualification in project management or equivalent experience.
  • CSCS and SMSTS or Equivalent.
