Job summary

Nicholas Associates Group Limited in the West Midlands is seeking a proactive Buyer to join its groundworks procurement team. You will build relationships with suppliers, source materials for site teams and place orders while ensuring value for money and compliance.

The role focuses on managing day-to-day procurement, negotiating prices, monitoring supplier performance, and maintaining cost reports to maximise efficiency across projects.

Qualifications

• Experience as a Buyer with groundworks or civil engineering contractor.
• Knowledge of groundworks materials, aggregates, asphalt, concrete and drainage.
• Strong negotiation skills and ability to build effective supplier relationships.
• Confident with large data sets and Microsoft Office.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:

• Build relationships and manage suppliers, negotiate prices and place orders
• Managing the day-to-day project procurement of materials
• Liaising with the on-site teams to source the most cost-effective materials, of the highest quality
• Monitoring the performance, quality, prices and development of suppliers
• Ensuring health and safety compliance
• Identifying new potential suppliers and products
• Preparing quotations and proposals
• Attending team meetings and site visits
• Preparing and maintaining cost reports to maximise efficiency

Requirements:

• Previous experience as a Buyer with a groundworks or civil engineering contractor
• Knowledge of groundworks materials, aggregates, asphalt, concreate and drainage
• Strong negotiation skills and the ability to build effective working relationships with suppliers and the site teams
• Computer literate including Microsoft Office and confident in managing and working with large data sets
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
