Job Title: Buyer – Construction & Maintenance Materials

Location: North West (covering Liverpool, St Helens, and Warrington) – Mobile / Agile Working

Are you an experienced procurement professional with a strong background in sourcing construction materials, housing components, or building supplies? Do you thrive in a fast-paced environment where you can drive commercial savings and build resilient supply chains? We are seeking a talented Buyer to join our Supply Chain team. In this role, you will support the delivery of procurement and sourcing activities across a diverse range of goods, works, and services, with a specific focus on areas like construction materials, repairs and maintenance stock, warehouse services, and waste management. Covering the Liverpool, St Helens, and Warrington region, this is an excellent opportunity for a proactive procurement specialist -ideally from a housebuilding, maintenance, contractor, or builders’ merchant background -to play a key role in driving value for money and supporting strategic procurement initiatives.

What you’ll be doing:

• Sourcing & Tendering: Lead and support end-to-end procurement exercises, including market testing, Requests for Information (RFI), Requests for Quotation (RFQ), Invitations to Tender (ITT), and mini-competitions.
• Category Focus: Deliver robust procurement solutions across key spend areas, specifically construction and maintenance materials, roofing, plumbing, electrical goods, and waste management.
• Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with internal operational teams to develop clear specifications, evaluate supplier responses, and support contract award processes.
• Supplier Management: Support supplier onboarding, manage ongoing relationships, and conduct contract performance reviews to ensure effective service delivery and continuous improvement.
• Commercial Drive: Identify opportunities to achieve commercial savings, improve efficiency, conduct market analysis, and deliver clear value engineering opportunities.
• Compliance & Reporting: Maintain accurate procurement workplans, project trackers, and savings reports while ensuring full alignment with organizational governance and financial compliance.

What we’re looking for:

• Industry Experience: Significant experience within a procurement, purchasing, or supply chain environment, specifically buying construction materials, housing maintenance goods, or working within a builders’ merchant environment.
• Procurement Expertise: Strong knowledge of the full procurement lifecycle, tendering activities, and contract negotiations.
• Qualifications: A degree-level qualification, combined with CIPS membership (or actively working towards a professional procurement qualification).
• Skills: Excellent analytical skills to interpret spend data, strong IT literacy (Microsoft Office and procurement systems), and exceptional stakeholder management skills.
• Mobility: A proactive approach with the ability to travel between regional office locations and supplier sites across the North West as required.
