About the role

Paisley Site Services are looking for an experienced Buyer to join a successful civil engineering procurement team, based in Teesside. You ll support all projects across the group, working closely with site, commercial and finance teams to get the right materials and services at the right price.

Regular travel to project sites, supplier locations, and group offices across the UK will be required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Material & service procurement:
    Source and purchase materials and subcontractor services for construction projects, including earthworks, groundworks, civil engineering, geotechnical services and waste management.
  • Supplier & subcontractor management:
    Build and maintain relationships with suppliers and subcontractors so pricing, quality, reliability and service stay at the right level.
  • Cost control & budgeting:
    Lead negotiations on rates, discounts and terms to deliver cost savings while supporting project programmes.
  • Project support:
    Work closely with site teams and commercial teams to forecast material needs, schedule deliveries and avoid delays.
  • Compliance & sustainability:
    Make sure procurement activity follows company policies, health and safety requirements and environmental standards.
  • Material specification review:
    Review specifications with engineers and site teams, proposing cost-effective alternatives where appropriate.
Systems & Process Development
  • Procurement systems:
    Use the Integrity Procurement System to raise purchase orders, track procurement activity and keep data accurate.
  • Process improvement:
    Identify and implement improvements to procurement procedures across the business.
Skills & Experience Required
  • Experience in construction procurement or buying (groundworks / civil engineering preferred).
  • Strong communication skills, with confidence dealing with suppliers, site teams and internal stakeholders.
  • Good organisation and attention to detail, able to manage multiple orders and enquiries at the same time.
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.
  • Proven negotiation and problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness to travel for supplier and site visits across the UK.
  • Full UK driving licence (preferred)
