Responsibilities
  • Negotiating with suppliers to develop orders for live jobs.
  • Maintaining working relationships with key and preferred suppliers.
  • Processing of orders for goods and services as dictated by the needs of the company.
  • Negotiating with suppliers to achieve orders at the optimum advantage to the company’s requirements, where possible achieving best buy downs on tender rates to jobs.
  • Value engineering of orders to advise where alternatives provide equal and approved specifications at a commercial or program advantage.
Key requirements
Essential
  • Proven experience in procurement or buying — ideally within the construction, civil engineering and building materials sector.
  • Solid knowledge of construction materials, supplier networks, and market pricing.
  • Time management skills and ability to work to deadlines.
  • Commercial awareness
Desirable
  • Experience of procurement systems, and competent in the use of Microsoft applications.
  • Good communication skills - confident in handling enquiries and negotiating.
