Our client is a growing international engineering company based in Newport NP10.

As a Buyer, you'll be joining a team that values autonomy, initiative, and straight‑line execution. If you want a role where your supplier decisions, negotiation skills and market insight genuinely shift the number not just fill a process this is it.

The Role

They are looking for a Buyer who can manage supplier relationships end‑to‑end, negotiate effectively, and stay ahead of market trends.

This is a hands‑on role in a fast‑moving manufacturing environment, where accuracy, commercial sharpness and follow‑through are essential.

You’ll be responsible for securing materials and services at the best total cost, managing supplier performance, and ensuring supply continuity without bloating stock or exposing the business to unnecessary risk.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and develop assigned supplier relationships.
  • Negotiate pricing, payment terms and commercial conditions.
  • Forecast market trends affecting material costs and availability.
  • Run commodity and price comparison analyses; identify cost‑saving opportunities.
  • Source new suppliers and alternative materials in collaboration with technical teams.
  • Maintain accurate lead times, purchase requisitions and supply programmes.
  • Resolve rejected materials, ensure credits, and minimise exposure to MOQs/price increases.
  • Proactively collaborate with production, engineering and planning teams.
  • Support continuous improvement across purchasing and supply chain processes.
  • Ensure compliance with H&S and company codes of conduct.
  • Monitor and control excess stock and cost.
What You'll Need
Essential
  • Minimum: 2 A-levels, HNC or CIPS Diploma (or equivalent).
  • 3+ years' purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong negotiation, communication and supplier‑relationship skills.
  • High attention to detail, numeracy and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently with full ownership and proactive decision‑making.
  • Solid IT skills and understanding of production processes.
Desirable
  • Exposure to electronic manufacturing and components.
  • Membership of CIPS.
  • Comfortable balancing teamwork with independent delivery.
