Job summary

Overview

Senior Buyer/Buyer – My client, a leading manufacturer, is seeking a Senior Buyer/Buyer to join their team.

Job Role and Scope

As a key member of the Commercial team, you are responsible for purchasing products and components, expediting urgent requirements, and working with suppliers to meet delivery and quality targets. You also support costing activities for new quotes to ensure accurate future ordering. Close collaboration with account management and operations is essential to maintain an effective supply of materials for production. Building strong supplier relationships and maintaining accurate system data is critical to meeting customer stock requirements.

Main Responsibilities
  1. Request and negotiate supplier pricing, lead times, and delivery terms.
  2. Analyse data across multiple components to determine optimal purchasing decisions.
  3. Use MRP systems and purchasing tools to support buying and quoting activities.
  4. Manage purchasing activities including ordering, expediting, and rescheduling.
  5. Support supplier selection, assessment, performance monitoring, and improvement.
  6. Collaborate with account management, engineering, quality, and production teams to support commercial negotiations and new projects.
Skills, knowledge & experience
  • Ideally 4 years of buying experience, preferably within a manufacturing environment. This can be less
  • Understanding of electronic products and experience in component and commodity purchasing (e.g. plastics, metals).
  • Proficient in data analysis with strong numeracy skills; experienced with Excel and databases.
  • Confident user of stock or MRP systems (experience with IFS or Factory Master is a plus).
