Job summary

Thomas Gray Ltd seeks an experienced Assistant Buyer or Buyer to join a new region of a renowned Housebuilder, based in Berkshire. The role targets exposure to residential construction; volume is preferred though not essential, presenting a strong growth opportunity in a fast-growing region.

You will take ownership of procurement workflows for a brand new development, negotiating and coordinating end-to-end buying processes and subcontractor packages to support on-time delivery and margin

Qualifications

• Exposure to residential construction; volume is preferred but not a prerequisite.
• Experience as Assistant Buyer or Buyer is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Procurement & Package Management: own procurement workflows for the new development including scheduling, negotiating and end-to-end buying processes.
• Coordinate subcontract packages across the South Coast, Thames Valley, and South Midlands regions with commercial alignment and cost control.
• Partner with Head of Commercial, site teams and wider commercial department to ensure procurement progress from pre-construction to handover.
• Oversee material ordering schedules, pricing and logistics to protect project margins and drive cost efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

• Procurement & Package Management: Command all procurement workflows for the their brand new development, taking full ownership of scheduling, negotiating, and managing the end-to-end buying process for the site.
• Supply Chain & Subcontractor Operations: Coordinate subcontract packages across the South Coast, Thames Valley, and South Midlands regions, ensuring commercial alignment, accurate forecasting, and rigorous cost control.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with the Head of Commercial, site teams, and the wider commercial department to ensure seamless procurement progression from pre-construction to final project handover.
• Cost & Materials Control: Oversee material ordering schedules, material pricing, and logistics to protect project margins, mitigate cost inflation, and drive financial efficiency across all live developments.
