We're on a journey to build a workforce reflective of our Borough.

We are committed to fostering diverse teams where everybody can bring their authentic selves to work and feel that they belong. If you want to work for a Council where everybody is encouraged to meet their full potential and make a difference in our neighbourhoods, we would love to hear from you!

Your role:

Your role is to manage strategy into operational delivery within the Culture, Arts and Heritage service, ensuring service delivery at our three cultural venues and playing a leading role in developing exciting projects to deliver our wider cultural ambitions.

You will work alongside the Business Manager Culture, Arts & Heritage to oversee and develop all aspects of the service internally creating a holistic, varied and innovative service that enriches our borough, communities and residents, ensuring they add value and are cost effective.

You will maximise funding opportunities and link culture to key priorities for the borough including: education and skills, health and wellbeing, digital and support for the visitor economy.

About you:

You will have significant management experience and a proven track record of shaping service development and delivery in a cultural/heritage environment backed by a relevant qualification. You will be expected to manage staff setting clear objectives and targets to achieve measurable outcomes.

You will have a passion for culture, arts and heritage with excellent communication skills to ensure collaboration with a wide range of partners. You must be equally comfortable dealing with staff, elected members, customers and volunteers. This is a varied role so you must demonstrate your ability to work flexibly and deliver innovative approaches.

About us:

Wigan Council has been voted ‘Overall Council of the Year’ at the APSE (Association for Public Service Excellence) Awards. We are signed up to the Greater Manchester Continuous Service Commitment ensuring that your service will be continuous or ‘unbroken’ between the supporting organisations.

The Progress with Unity plan is a place movement for change for the next decade, bringing a new era for Wigan Borough. It draws on the strengths of our individual organisations, recognising that together we can achieve much more for our communities by delivering on our 2 place missions; create fair opportunities for all children, families, residents and businesses and make our towns and neighbourhoods flourish for those who live and work in them.

It is an exciting time for culture, arts and heritage in Wigan Borough – the Council’s 5-year Cultural Strategy ‘The Fire Within: The Forge’ was recently launched. We are a priority place for Arts Council England, with an array of organisations and programmes delivering an ambitious creative offer for residents. You will be joining a dedicated team passionate about connecting our communities and residents to arts, heritage and culture.

Here at Wigan, we are proud to support flexible working patterns, when the service can accommodate this. We also take a blended approach to where we work, depending on the work we do. This may include working from home, the office, or the community. We like to thank our employees for their hard work and commitment by giving them the opportunity to access a range of exclusive rewards and benefits click here to find out more about working for #TeamWigan.
