Job summary

UCL Ventures Ltd, a subsidiary of University College London, seeks a Business Manager/Senior Business Manager to drive identification, development and commercialisation of projects across Engineering, Mathematics & Physical Science, with a focus on Quantum and Photonic Technologies. The role involves working with academics, investors and industry to translate research into impact.

About the opportunity

UCL Ventures Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of University College London (UCL), has been successfully generating substantive income and impact for UCL and its partner hospitals for 30 years through the commercialisation of novel research.

To support an increasing pipeline of opportunities arising from the UCL research base, we are seeking to recruit a high‑quality candidate to the role of Business Manager/Senior Business Manager in the Physical Science & Engineering (PS&E) team.

What you’ll be doing

The individual we are seeking will work on the identification, development and commercialisation of a portfolio of projects arising from across the Faculties of Engineering, Mathematics & Physical Science with a focus on Quantum and Photonic Technologies and related disciplines. This role within a leading university research commercialisation company provides a unique opportunity to work collaboratively with the academic staff of a globally rated Top 10 University, investors, industry and other professionals.

What experience you’ll need

You will have at minimum a first degree or equivalent in an engineering or physical science-related discipline, with a strong Physics or Electrical and Electronic component and be able to demonstrate experience and success in technology commercialisation. Previous university technology transfer experience would be helpful but is not essential.

• The highly varied nature of the role and navigation of the many potential paths for commercialisation, best suits a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual, who has the negotiation, communication and organisational skills necessary to identify and develop early-stage technology commercialisation projects.
• Additionally, having worked within start-up environments or advised on product development and/or growth strategies would also be beneficial.
