Business Manager – Institute for Turnaround

Salary: £35,000 - £42,000 per annum, dependent on experience

Hours: 35-hour week with flexible working as required.

Contract: Permanent

Location: Office-based role in the City of London with some working from home (typically onsite Tuesday-Thursday, with flexibility required).

Responsible to: Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

Context: The Institute for Turnaround (The IFT) is the UK’s leading membership organisation for turnaround experts. Our members and corporate partner organisations help underperforming businesses avoid unnecessary insolvencies. IFT members preserve jobs and livelihoods, uphold local industries, protect economic value and strengthen public service organisations.

This role will suit an experienced administrative professional whose emotional intelligence is highly developed, who is tech savvy, quick to learn and who can take ownership of projects and problem-solve with maturity in a complex and fast-paced environment.

You will be working with a small high performing and friendly team who are busy supporting senior and smart business leaders by providing unparalleled accreditation, professional development, knowledge and networking opportunities and advocacy for turnaround excellence.

Specific responsibilities:

  • Provide proactive, high-quality administrative support to the CEO to make it simpler for her to fulfil strategic objectives and operational responsibilities
  • Efficiently manage the administration (diary, agenda, papers, minutes, actions) of meetings (e.g. Board, sub-committees) for the CEO
  • Be the lead team member for the CRM, including project coordinator for implementation of a new CRM, working alongside colleagues
  • Manage systems to monitor areas such as staff onboarding and training, absence, annual leave, and any others required
  • Coordinate and update policies and procedures
  • Support the CEO in the annual budget process, in association with the company accountant
  • Manage the annual membership renewal process alongside the membership officer
  • Oversee office contracts: office lease, equipment, IT, Web hosting
  • Help the CEO to manage her diary and arrange meetings with stakeholders
  • Manage recruitment procedures such as advertising roles, preparing documents for interviews and helping induct new staff and new board members
  • Update and collate documentation to support the annual audit and manage the associated timetable
  • Ensure provision of regular Companies House returns (confirmation statement, accounts, appointment and resignation of directors)
  • Carry out any other duties as may be required that are consistent with the responsibilities of the role

Essential
  • Exceptional organisation skills and meticulous attention to detail with the ability to develop and maintain appropriate administrative systems and take responsibility for projects for the team
  • Ability to calmly and flexibly manage a full, varied and confidential workload and use initiative and skills of perception to meet deadlines in a very busy environment
  • Tech savvy: the ability to identify where technology and systems can increase efficiency, organisation and quality
  • Experience of working with senior or executive leaders in a fast-paced, dynamic organisation
  • Skills to communicate in an effective, professional and courteous manner with a diverse range of people
  • Ability to confidently represent the CEO and communicate professionally on her behalf with members and stakeholders
  • Excellent written communication skills, with a keen eye for spelling, punctuation and grammar and able to edit work thoroughly before it reaches the CEO
  • Skilled use of 365 and Microsoft Office packages and the confidence and ability to learn how to use our new CRM
  • Ability to work with sensitive information and always maintain confidentiality
  • Excellent research skills and the ability to collate information and present it in an appropriate format
  • Ability to think creatively and proactively in order to problem-solve and complete tasks for the CEO
