A leading healthcare provider is seeking a Business Development Manager in Leeds. Thesuccessful candidate must have excellent communication skills and a proventrack record in service and process development within a Pathologyenvironment, as well as leadership skills and the operational grip to supportconsistent delivery of key patient-centred pieces of work.
ThePathology CSU has seen significant changes with technological and scientificadvances in recent months and this provides a great deal of scope forbusiness development as we seek to maximise the benefits of these.

Thepost holder provides management support to the CSU providing a key businessdevelopment function within the Pathology CSU. He/she will haveresponsibility for developing and delivering our business developmentstrategy to support the CSUs role as a specialist regional and nationalprovider of Pathology services.
Thepost holder will work closely with members of their CSU as well as the Trustcontracting team and external stakeholders in the strategic development ofthe services provided by the CSU. This will include the development ofrelationships with key internal and external partners.
Thepost holder will ensure the CSU functions as an integral part of the LeedsTeaching Hospitals Trust and that CSU and Trust-wide objectives are achievedsimultaneously.
Devolved responsibility for both payand non-pay budgets in the CSU
Be able if required to takeresponsibility for staff who may work Trust wide across several disciplinesand clinical specialties
Assist in the performance managementof the CSU
Have the ability to line manageadministrative, clerical and secretarial staff within the CSU and takemanagement responsibility for their personal development and performancereview if required
Responsible for the co-ordination ofthe procurement of medical and scientific capital equipment (Via MSEbids)Assist in the operational aspects of major service and capital planning

PRINCIPALDUTIES & AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Drives and supports the businessdevelopment agenda of the CSU including assessing and innovating businessopportunities, working with the speciality teams in promoting LTHT Pathologyservices to attract new business, and supporting cost-effective servicedelivery
Actively assists in the developmentand management of the CSU WasteReduction Programme to ensure financial balance involving the analysis ofboth pay and non-pay budgets to identify recurrent savings
Makes judgements involving complexfacts or situations requiring analysis, interpretation and the comparison ofa range of options resulting in differing expert opinions and conflict; e.g.managing clinical risks; agreeing strategies to meet patient access targets,changing working practices
Contributes to the CSUs servicedevelopment and revenue generation agenda by identifying and assessingstrategic options e.g. new service recipients, service redesign; capacity anddemand management; financial planning and quality improvement. Presents proposalsto the Service Manager or General Manager to input to the broader strategicdebate within the Trust. Understands the whole systems impact liaising withexternal partners as appropriate
Leads the development, monitoringand delivery of business and service plans and processes towards Trust andNational policies and targets
Manages the integration of avariety of resources to deliver targets/patient pathways the majority ofwhich are ongoing
Assists in the development of andmonitors activity plans for the CSU, making adjustments as necessary
Leads the development of businesscases whether for changes to service, new equipment or new posts which impactacross the whole organisation
Participates in the CSU involvementof patients and representative groups in service planning and development.
Works in partnership with CSUcolleagues and other CSU Teams and external agencies to ensure high qualitypatient care is delivered within Trust frameworks the Trusts short to mediumterm objectives are delivered
Leads and motivates staff in thedelivery of quality patient care across complex clinical and businessenvironments and services
Identifies and leads projects tomodernise and improve service delivery and patient access
Participates appropriately in theinvestigation of complaints
On behalf of the General Manager,leads specific project work within the CSU and on cross-CSU issues
Assist with policy developmentacross the organisation relevant to local area e.g. MAJAX, Winter Plan,National Service Frameworks
Ensures the local implementation ofTrust policies and procedures e.g. People and Corporate Governance, Healthand Safety
Develops and monitors ServiceLevel Agreements and devises prices for services provided to the CSUscustomers (internal and external) Support the Service Manager in managingtheir budgets to ensure the efficient and effective use of such resources andthe achievement of all financial targetsHas the capability to provide leadership to any staff they mayline-manage, to ensure appropriate arrangements are in place to setobjectives, monitor performance, agree and review development needs andensure staff understand and can achieve the required results.
Assists in disciplinary andgrievance matters
Identifies information needs of theCSU and ensures the accuracy and use of information related to patientprocesses
Produces reports and proposals,including spreadsheets, some of which are complex and involve bids foradditional funding from Commissioners
Supports the Service Manager orGeneral Manager in the interface with commissioners
Contributes to Trust wideactivities taking a lead responsibility for selected pieces of work
Responsible for co-ordinating theprocurement of medical and scientific capital equipment via the Trusts MSEprocess
Undertakes audit work to facilitateservice improvement and collates and presents research results
Plans a broad range of activitieswith customers and potential customers that involves formulation of planswhich require on-going review and adjustment
Contribute to bid/no biddecisions to lead the Trusts response to ITTs
Analyse current services toidentify service improvement opportunities, potential cost savings (includingthe re-evaluation of sendaways), client retention strategies and potential toextend the CSUs test repertoire and/or the current client base.
In conjunction with the ServiceManager to develop, implement and update the business development strategyfor their specialty area/s within Pathology, to include income targets andpromote the current test repertoire to deliver revenue generation
