Job description

Are you a strategic thinker with a passion for driving business results and delivering exceptional client service? We’re looking for an experienced Business Development Manager to join our London team!

If you are an exceptionally driven individual with expertise in account management or business development, we would like to hear from you. You’ll be immersed in the fast-moving world of consumer insights and culture, with the opportunity to showcase your innovative thinking, build lasting relationships with clients, and contribute to the continued growth of our company. We think big to make an impact, we’re not afraid to ask why, and we always show respect. These principles have been instrumental in our success, and they’re a big part of what we’re looking for in you.

About us

We are Canvas8, a strategic insights practice operating out of London, NY, LA, Singapore & Manila. We help our clients understand people so they can make better business decisions.

Our work is about investigating the hidden insights in everyday life – from the psychology of boredom to teenage make‑up rituals to why Barbiecore is a Gen Y thing – and making them meaningful for brands. Our team is a blend of different disciplines and skills – from psychology to journalism, and anthropology to behavioural economics. What unites them is a desire to understand people and a passion for delivering outstanding work.

About the role

As a Business Development Manager, you’ll be part of a growing enterprise team selling into leading agencies and B2C brands across industries. Your focus will be on securing new and scalable business opportunities through a consultative‑selling approach and proposing strategic solutions that focus on the issues crucial to the client’s future and performance. Your responsibilities will cover the entire end‑to‑end sales cycle, from prospecting and discovery to proposal writing and closing deals.

Joining the EMEA business during a period of global growth, you’ll have the chance to thrive in a dynamic, fast‑paced, and entrepreneurial environment, from which there are opportunities to build, grow and develop at an unrivalled pace.

The day‑to‑day
  • Proactively discovering new opportunities to enter into your target market
  • Generating leads, building and managing your sales pipeline
  • Managing the sales process end‑to‑end - from pitching to trialing to closing
  • Employing a curious mindset to client challenges in order to identify solutions
  • Writing proposals, negotiating contracts and closing deals
  • Building and maintaining relationships with prospective clients
  • Work in close conjunction with adjacent functions such as Consultancy, Membership, Analyst and Product teams to exchange knowledge, improve and build new solutions
  • Meet quarterly and annual sales targets by converting inbound leads and generating new opportunities in defined verticals
About you

As an industry leader in human behaviour and culture, we haven’t come this far without entrepreneurial spirit and a get‑up‑and‑go attitude. So if you think we’ll see that in you, then you’re already halfway there.

Joining our close‑knit, strategically minded sales team, you’ll be fully immersed from the start and develop your own profile among communications agencies, media owners and brands. Motivated and engaged, you’ll build a smart, product‑agnostic and consultative approach to sales. Articulate and confident, whilst building relationships with prospects by understanding their challenges and offering solutions both face‑to‑face and remotely. As a quick learner, we offer full autonomy and continued support in identifying new opportunities for growth.

  • Proven experience in New Business selling similar data or platform products (SaaS, recurring revenue) to Enterprise and Mid‑Market in a range of industries
  • Experience and success developing relationships with personas in Insight and Strategy working across areas such as Brand Health, Marketing Strategy, Innovation, Product Development and Audience Understanding.
  • In‑depth knowledge of the full sales cycle from prospecting to close, and a solid track record of building pipeline (inbound/outbound), closing and achieving sales goals
  • Able to demonstrate excellent processes across Hubspot, Salesforce and/or other sales enablement software
  • Critical thinker able to unearth and diagnose client challenges
  • Strong communication, presentation, and negotiation skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross‑functional teams and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • The base salary range for this position is £40,000 - £45,000, dependent on experience + uncapped commission
  • Hybrid working with flexible start times
  • 29 days paid holiday (including bank holidays)
  • Interest‑free ‘Life Unlock Loan’ for lump sum payments (rental deposits, etc)
  • A personalised career development plan
  • Access to physical and mental well‑being support including two ‘Mental Wealth’ days
  • Pension, life insurance, cashback private health plan and cycle scheme
  • Summer Fridays, seasonal benefits, and lots of staff socials
  • A friendly and welcoming team (pooches included)
