About the Role

Our client is a private equity–backed engineering services business and is seeking a Business Development Manager. As implied by the job title, the role is focused on new business development—this is not a farming role! You will play a key part in driving sales of specialist engineering services to the F&B and pharmaceutical sector, to name just two.

You will be responsible for generating new opportunities, qualifying prospects, running outreach sequences, and arranging discovery meetings that convert into business. The company is highly structured, with excellent back‑office systems and CRM processes in place.

Key Responsibilities
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities
  • Conduct structured outreach campaigns using digital tools (LinkedIn, email sequences, phone) and person-to-person engagement
  • Qualify leads based on an ideal customer profile before arranging discovery meetings
  • Lead discovery meetings with qualified prospects to understand requirements and demonstrate solutions
  • Pass qualified accounts seamlessly to the internal ‘farming’ team for ongoing relationship management
  • Track and manage all activity within the CRM and outreach platform
  • Meet weekly / monthly targets for new customer meetings and outreach activity
Key Competencies & Experience
  • Minimum 2+ years using social media platforms and experience of following ‘tepid’ leads through person-to-person cold‑calling
  • Some technical knowledge in electrical or engineering solutions preferred (e.g., trade counter, direct sales)
  • Persistent, highly motivated, and customer-focused with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Strong digital selling skills, balanced with traditional relationship-building abilities
  • Ability to manage outreach sequences effectively (4–6 weeks) to generate qualified leads
  • Target‑driven with the ability to measure success through both activity and results
