Business Development Engineer

Location: UK (Field-Based) | Salary: £35,000-£40,000 + Attractive Commission Scheme, Car Allowance & Benefits

Are you a driven sales professional with experience in metrology or precision engineering? Do you thrive on building relationships, uncovering new opportunities, and delivering technical solutions?

We are seeking a Business Development Engineer to lead the growth of our CMM and metrology product portfolio across the UK & Ireland.

About the Role

Reporting to the Managing Director, you will take commercial ownership of our metrology systems, leading sales activities, building partnerships, and providing technical support to customers. You'll play a key role in expanding our new machine business, introducing new technologies, and enhancing market presence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the full sales cycle of metrology systems, upgrades, and retrofits across the UK & Ireland
  • Identify and develop new business opportunities while nurturing existing customer relationships
  • Introduce and promote new products, maximising market potential
  • Support and collaborate with sales agents, partners, and internal teams
  • Conduct customer visits, demonstrations, and presentations (UK & occasional international travel)
  • Maintain accurate sales records, quotations, and CRM data
  • Produce monthly sales activity reports and contribute to annual sales strategies
  • Attend industry exhibitions, open houses, and sales meetings
  • Provide ideas and input to continuously improve business development initiatives
About You — Essential
  • Minimum 5 years' sales experience in the metrology or precision engineering industry
  • Proven track record of achieving or exceeding sales targets
  • Strong understanding of CMM systems and value-based selling
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and GD&T
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills
  • Highly self-motivated, organised, and commercially minded
Desirable
  • Knowledge of non-contact scanning or CT technology
  • Experience working with CRM platforms such as Goldmine
  • Mechanical Engineering qualification (ONC/HNC or equivalent)
