About the Role

We are seeking an experienced, technically strong Business Development Director to support the continued growth of our Process Development, Scale-Up and GMP Manufacturing services.

This role is ideal for a scientifically grounded commercial professional who combines hands‑on experience in process chemistry with a passion for building partnerships and shaping CDMO solutions.

You will leverage your scientific background and industry network to identify new business opportunities, develop strategic customer relationships, and position Pharmaron as a partner of choice for small molecule CMC services. Working closely with internal Process Chemistry and Manufacturing teams, you will translate complex technical needs into clear, actionable proposals that drive measurable growth.

This is a remote role with regular travel across the UK and Europe, ideal for someone who enjoys autonomy, is proactive, and thrives in a fast‑paced commercial environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Identify, qualify and develop new business opportunities across process development, scale‑up, technology transfer and GMP manufacturing.
  • Achieve annual revenue and growth targets through strategic client engagement.
  • Serve as the technical and strategic liaison between clients and internal scientific, operational and project management teams.
  • Understand client needs and translate them into robust proposals, timelines, scopes of work and commercial terms.
  • Build and maintain a high‑quality pipeline across pharma, biotech and emerging innovators.
  • Collaborate with Process Chemistry and Manufacturing to ensure alignment between client expectations and operational capability.
  • Represent Pharmaron at conferences, trade shows and industry events, strengthening brand presence.
  • Support the development of technical marketing content aligned with CMC business goals.
  • Support the creation and ideation of scientific marketing content to support CMC marketing goals
  • Monitor market trends, customer feedback and competitor activity to inform commercial and service‑line strategy.
  • Maintain accurate CRM documentation, forecasting and account management records.
Candidate Profile
  • PhD in Organic Chemistry (preferred).
  • 5+ years of industry experience in Process Chemistry, ideally within pharmaceutical or biotech settings.
  • Strong understanding of small molecule process development, scale‑up, tech transfer and regulatory pathways.
  • Prior business development or client‑facing experience is highly beneficial, but candidates with strong communication skills and commercial curiosity are encouraged to apply.
  • Ability to articulate complex technical concepts clearly to a range of scientific and non‑scientific stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop long‑term customer relationships and contribute to revenue growth.
  • Highly organized, self‑driven, and comfortable working independently in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Excellent presentation, negotiation and interpersonal skills.
