Job description

Description

Are you looking to develop your business development experience in a fast-moving global business? Used to providing on-going business development support? We're looking for a Business Development Assistant to join our global Business Development & Marketing team, to be based in our Birmingham office.

You'll need to be self-motivated with excellent communication skills and a demonstrable understanding of marketing, business and client development practices. Experience in a similar role is desirable and an understanding of the legal environment would be beneficial to the role.

Our Firm

Squire Patton Boggs is one of the world's strongest integrated law firms, committed to providing insight at the point where law, business and government meet. We deliver commercially focused business solutions to a diverse mix of clients, from long-established leading corporations to emerging businesses, start-up visionaries and sovereign nations.

With over 1,500 lawyers spanning more than 40 offices across four continents, the firm is renowned for its local connections and global influence, delivering comprehensive legal services across North America, Europe, the Middle East, Asia Pacific, and Latin America. In the UK, we have offices in Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds and London.

The firm is committed to promoting a collaborative and supportive working environment. Embedded by local champions in each of our UK offices, our well-regarded family and carer, wellbeing and workplace culture and development programmes provide a variety of flexible working options to support individuals' life journeys, helping our people pursue their personal and professional goals.

Our Team

Our global Business Development & Marketing team work together to provide frontline business development support and advice at a practice, industry and office level - much of the work being collaborative and international in nature.

You’ll be reporting into the Business Development Director and will work closely with the wider UK-based Business Development & Marketing team. You will provide a full range of on-going administrative activities for the Birmingham office, as well as supporting other strategic growth practices or BD-related projects in the UK.

Our Opportunity

This role would be ideal for someone who is looking to develop their administrative and marketing skills within a legal office environment.

You will help to coordinate initiatives with our UK offices, practices and sectors. This will involve working with the Business Development Director to define and execute business growth objectives, identify target opportunities, develop and coordinate business development plans, and work with related teams to grow the firm’s business base.

You will provide support in preparing responses to domestic and cross-border requests for information, requests for proposals, and other pitches, proposals, capability statements and client-facing materials for new or expanded business.

You will also be responsible for updating and maintaining the team’s databases, as well as supporting the BD Managers on their day-to-day BD and marketing support needs (updating materials, pitch support, mailing lists etc). You will monitor office BD budgets, generate BD budget codes, and monitor spend.

You

As this is a varied role, you’ll need to be a creative, determined individual with critical attention to detail and excellent communication skills (verbal and written). You’ll be a team player, with a professional attitude, and have the drive and ability to focus on a number of different projects to ensure that all deadlines are met. This is a busy role so the ability to work under pressure is important.

You will have 1-2 years' experience in a similar role, ideally within a professional services organisation. You will have strong MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook) and social media channel skills. An understanding of marketing, business and client development principles, activities and tools would be beneficial.

Flexibility regarding hours and travelling to other UK offices is required.
