Octopus Energy Group in Leicester is seeking a Credit Specialist to support business customers in arrears. You will manage payment plans, respond to inquiries, and help optimise debt resolution processes while ensuring a high standard of customer service.

The role is hybrid with three days per week in the Leicester office, offering opportunities to influence debt strategy and collaborate with the Credit Team and Energy Specialists.

Responsibilities

  • Reaching out to customers with overdue accounts to discuss and agree appropriate payment plans.
  • Answering inbound calls and responding to customer emails regarding debt, payment plans, and energy accounts.
  • Providing outragesly good customer service to support Business customers in leaving our debt collection process.
  • Resolve queries from internal and external partners, maintaining a flexible approach with commercial impact in mind.
  • Support in managing warrant activities and ensure a resolution mindset toward disconnection where necessary.
  • Assisting with credit reference agency data and financial insights to inform escalation and debt decisions.
  • High attention to detail for tracing liable parties using specialised tools.
  • Supporting the identification and resolution of account issues to improve the customer journey.
  • Assist the team in identifying customer trends and development of repayment strategies.

Job description

As a Credit Specialist in the Business Credit Operation teams you’ll use your expertise to support individuals and businesses who have fallen into arrears. Your primary goal will be to provide outrageously good end-to-end service, supporting customers in resolving their financial obligations, and helping to develop the processes for timely collection of outstanding balances.

What you'll do:
  • Reaching out to customers with overdue accounts to discuss and agree appropriate payment plans.
  • Answering inbound calls, and responding to customer email inquiries regarding debt, payment plans, and their energy account.
  • Providing outrageously good customer service to support our Business customers in leaving our debt collection process, discussing objections to their switch and credit referencing.
  • Resolve queries from both internal and external third-party partners, maintaining a flexible approach which is conscious of commercial impact.
  • Support in managing warrant activities and ensure we’re maintaining a resolution mindset throughout the process to disconnection where necessary
  • Assisting the team in utilising credit reference agency data and financial insights to inform effective, risk‑aware escalation and debt resolution decisions.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy for tracing down liable parties using highly specialised tools
  • Supporting the identification and resolution of common account issues to improve the customer journey and reduce obstacles to them making payment.
  • Assist the team in identifying customer trends and supporting the development and deployment of repayment strategies.
  • Working collaboratively with team members and the wider credit family to do the right thing for the customer, and build sustainable long‑term solutions.
  • Working closely with the wider Business operations team, to advise Energy Specialists on debt processes and the CreditTeam perspective.
  • You will also have the opportunity to work with charities close to Octopus such as the YMCA to provide donations and account support.
