Building Systems Technician
Location: Staffordshire
Salary: up to £45,000
Holidays: 26 days plus bank holidays

A well-established and respected manufacturer and supplier of specialist building materials is seeking a Building Systems Technician to join its Technical Services team. This role supports the technical lifecycle of projects, providing structured detailing, documentation, and compliance checks across a diverse product and system portfolio.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the development of technical solutions by preparing details, technical notes, and structured responses under the guidance of senior technical staff
  • Produce and update CAD details and coordinated drawing packs, ensuring accuracy, version control, and alignment with approved designs
  • Provide clear, professional, and timely technical support to customers and internal project teams, escalating complex queries where appropriate
  • Prepare calculations (including U-values, wind loading, and thermal analysis) and compile system documentation for approval
  • Create accurate project packs, specifications, and technical documentation across all product ranges
  • Support major projects while maintaining clear boundaries regarding system capabilities and limitations
  • Liaise effectively with internal departments, customers, and project stakeholders to support successful project outcomes
  • Assist with product testing, accreditation activities, and quality documentation, including test evidence collation and controlled document preparation
  • Manage technical data, drawings, and project records using internal systems with full traceability
  • Contribute to continuous improvement through detail reviews, documentation updates, and project feedback
  • Build knowledge in designated product areas, acting as an internal point of contact while complex issues remain with senior technical staff
  • Maintain awareness of relevant regulations and standards (e.g., CWCT, EN standards, and building safety-related requirements)
  • Support the smooth day-to-day running of the Technical Services department and represent the organisation professionally
Experience & Knowledge Required
  • Practical technical understanding of construction or façade-related systems (training provided where required)
  • Awareness of building materials, compliance requirements, and willingness to learn façade-specific standards
  • Experience working with architects, contractors, or project teams
  • Strong IT skills, with excellent communication and customer service capabilities
  • Highly organised, proactive, and able to manage multiple priorities
  • Strong problem-solving, numeracy, and literacy skills, with the ability to identify missing information and communicate limitations clearly
Qualifications & Core Skills
  • HNC/HND or equivalent in Construction, Architecture, or related discipline
  • Strong IT proficiency, including Microsoft Office (CAD experience is advantageous)
  • Solid understanding of building practices and the ability to interpret architectural drawings
  • Excellent attention to detail, communication, and administrative skills
  • A customer-focused approach with strong interpersonal abilities
