Job summary

Yorkshire Water is recruiting a Building Surveyor to join the Land and Property team. The role involves supporting compliance, delivering surveys, inspections, and reports across a large regional estate.

You will travel to sites and work in a hybrid setup with one office day per week initially, based in Bradford with future Leeds relocation. The role offers a competitive salary (£43,577 - £54,742), a company car or £3,000 cash allowance, a bonus up to £1,000, a pension up to 12%, generous leave,

Qualifications

  • A degree in Building Surveying (or similar).
  • MRICS or MCIOB qualification preferred.
  • Hold a full UK driving licence.
  • Strong knowledge of building legislation, compliance, and landlord responsibilities.
  • Hands-on experience delivering building surveys across diverse properties.
  • Solid understanding of building pathology and defect identification.
  • Good working knowledge of CDM 2015 and project requirements.
  • Confident with on-site health & safety management.

Responsibilities

  • Support Lead Building Surveyor with expert advice on building compliance across property types.
  • Deliver proactive surveying, maintenance, and inspection programmes across the estate.
  • Conduct site inspections, audits, and surveys; identify defects and provide clear recommendations.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders; drive best outcomes on projects.
  • Advise on design, construction, repair and refurbishment of buildings and structures.
  • Lead feasibility studies and scoping for future works across the estate.
  • Work with Project Delivery to provide specifications, scoping, and technical documentation.

Location: This role will initially be based in Bradford but were moving our office to Leeds Valley Park in summer 2026, so youll be based there in the future - Hybrid Working (minimum of 1 office day a week Bradford/Leeds). There will be required travel across our sites.

Work type: Permanent. 37 hours per week, Monday Friday.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Building Surveyor to join the Land and Property department at Yorkshire Water and be a part of helping Yorkshire Water to provide the best service to our customers.

Where you fit in:
  • Support the Lead Building Surveyor in providing expert advice on building compliance, providing trusted advice across a wide range of property types
  • Play a key role in delivering a proactive surveying, maintenance, and inspection programmes across a diverse estate
  • Get out on site to conduct inspections, audits, and surveys, identifying defects and providing clear recommendations and reports
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders
  • Solve problems and drive the best outcomes
  • Influence projects advising on the design, construction, repair, and refurbishment of buildings and structures
  • Lead on feasibility studies and project scoping, shaping future works across the estate
  • Work closely with our Project Delivery team providing detailed specifications, scoping and technical documentation and support
  • Take ownership of projects in the pre-construction phase, including CDM and Building Safety Act responsibilities, enabling the business to act as Principal Designer on selected projects
  • Oversee works on site, ensuring quality, progress, and successful delivery
  • Keep key data up to date and support the Lead Building Surveyor in delivering business strategy
What skills & qualifications you will need:
  • A degree in Building Surveying (or similar) with a passion for the built environment
  • MRICS or MCIOB qualified
  • Hold a full UK driving licence
  • Strong knowledge of building legislation, compliance, and landlord responsibilities
  • Hands-on experience delivering building surveys across a variety of property types
  • Solid understanding of building pathology and identifying defects
  • Good working knowledge of CDM 2015 regulations and project requirements
  • Confident with on-site health & safety management, keeping people and projects safe
