Job summary

A local government authority in Canterbury is seeking a Building Support Officer to assist with the building consent process. You’ll provide essential admin support and thrive in a busy team environment. Ideal candidates will bring strong administrative skills and a passion for customer service. Previous experience in the building industry is a bonus. This role offers full-time hours on a fixed-term basis.

We’re looking for a proactive and organised Building Support Officer to join our busy Building team whilst one of our team members goes on parental leave. This role is all about helping people build and renovate safely, supporting the building consent process from start to finish while delivering a great customer experience.


You’re organised, tech‑savvy, and love helping people. Confident with admin and MS Office, you bring a positive attitude and a passion for great service. Bonus if you know the building industry!


You will thrive in this role if you:



  • Have strong admin skills and are confident using MS Office

  • Communicate clearly and enjoy helping people through complex processes

  • Are organised, detail‑focused, and work well in a fast‑paced environment

  • Bring a “boots ‘n all” attitude and a passion for great service

  • Have knowledge of the construction industry and building legislation (a bonus!)
