Job summary

Dalkia UK is hiring a Building Services Technician with a mechanical bias to support Imperial College London's White City campus and other sites within the estate.

You'll perform hands‑on maintenance and repairs across AHUs, FCUs, pumps and related systems, while liaising with site teams to ensure safe, compliant operations.

Qualifications

• Minimum Level 2 qualification in mechanical engineering, plumbing, HVAC or building services.
• Experience maintaining air-handling units and ventilation equipment.
• Experience planned and reactive mechanical maintenance in FM/building services.
• Ability to identify mechanical faults and complete first-line repairs.
• Experience with AHUs, FCUs, pumps, calorifiers and pressurisation units.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Safety-focused with ability to work independently on multi-site contracts.

Building Services Technician – Mechanical Bias

Primary Location: Imperial College London, White City
Working Hours: Monday–Friday, 08:00–17:00

Dalkia UK provides facilities management services across approximately 30 buildings within Imperial College London's diverse and technically complex estate.

We are looking for an experienced Building Services Technician with a mechanical bias to join our dedicated team. Predominantly based at the White City campus, you will also support Imperial College London's South Kensington and Hammersmith sites when required.

This is a hands‑on role delivering planned and reactive maintenance across a range of mechanical building‑services systems. You will work with equipment including air‑handling units, fan coil units, pumps, calorifiers and pressurisation units, carrying out routine maintenance, investigating faults and completing first‑line repairs.

The role would suit an experienced mechanical maintenance technician, HVAC technician or mechanically biased building‑services engineer who is confident maintaining mechanical plant within large commercial or technically complex buildings. You will help ensure the estate remains safe, compliant and operating effectively while providing a responsive and professional service to the client.

What You'll Be Doing

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance and reactive repairs across mechanical building‑services systems.
• Inspect, service and maintain air‑handling units, including filters, belts, fans, bearings, motors, dampers, actuators and associated mechanical components.
• Investigate faults affecting air‑handling and ventilation systems, identify the likely cause and complete appropriate first‑line repairs.
• Carry out routine maintenance and fault‑finding on fan coil units, including filters, valves, actuators, fans and condensate systems.
• Inspect, maintain and complete first‑line repairs to pumps, calorifiers, pressurisation units and other associated mechanical plant.
• Identify worn, damaged or defective components and arrange replacement parts or specialist support where necessary.
• Respond to mechanical and plumbing‑related callouts, including leaks, blockages, loss of water pressure, defective taps, toilets and other associated faults.
• Complete minor plumbing repairs and remedial works within your level of competence.
• Carry out L8 water‑hygiene activities, including tap flushing, sentinel outlet temperature checks and the descaling of showerheads and eyewash stations.
• Undertake emergency‑lighting tests and other routine safety and compliance checks.
• Complete visual plant inspections, identify developing issues and report defects before they result in equipment failure.
• Use mobile devices and CAFM systems to receive tasks, record findings, update job information and accurately document completed works.
• Provide clear information when faults require replacement components, further technical investigation or specialist subcontractor support.
• Escort and oversee specialist subcontractors, ensuring work is completed safely and in accordance with site requirements.
• Communicate professionally with clients, colleagues and site management, providing clear updates on faults, repairs and outstanding works.
• Ensure all activities are completed in accordance with relevant health, safety and compliance requirements.
• Support the wider engineering team with other appropriate building‑services maintenance duties.

What We're Looking For

• A minimum Level 2 qualification in mechanical engineering, plumbing, HVAC or building services, such as City & Guilds or NVQ; Level 3 would be desirable.
• Practical experience maintaining and repairing air‑handling units and associated ventilation equipment.
• Experience undertaking planned and reactive mechanical maintenance within a facilities‑management or building‑services environment.
• The ability to identify mechanical faults and complete first‑line repairs without relying solely on specialist subcontractors.
• Experience working with equipment such as AHUs, FCUs, pumps, calorifiers and pressurisation units.
• General plumbing maintenance and repair experience.
• Experience maintaining large commercial or technically complex buildings; experience within universities, hospitals, laboratories or similar environments would be advantageous.
• A good understanding of safe systems of work and building‑services compliance.
• Confidence using mobile devices and CAFM systems to manage and record maintenance activities.
• Good communication and customer-service skills.
• The ability to organise your workload and work independently across a multi‑site contract.
• A full UK driving licence.
• A proactive, collaborative and safety‑focused approach.
