Job Description

As an Electrical Engineer, you will develop and implement systems that power and control our maritime platforms and directly support teams of craft technicians. Your role is crucial in ensuring the quality and performance of our products and places you at the forefront of advancing world‑leading maritime technology.

Responsibilities
  • Systems design, craft build, fault finding and maintenance; feeding into system design and assembling and fitting electrical components and systems according to specifications. Competent use of hand tools and fault‑finding equipment; confident in fault‑finding of high voltage, low voltage and CAN‑based systems.
  • Assisting in the sourcing and selection of components and in the build and manufacture of the electrical and control system; quality control and setting to work of vessel electrical systems.
  • Work Management – follow work instructions and project timelines diligently to ensure timely completion of tasks; utilise tablet‑based work management systems to access work instructions, record progress, and complete documentation accurately; collaborate in the creation of process and work instructions.
  • Team Collaboration – work closely with all team members in a collaborative environment to achieve project goals; communicate effectively with colleagues to coordinate tasks, share insights, and troubleshoot issues as they arise.
  • Adherence to Standards – maintain exacting standards of workmanship in all aspects of craft build, maintenance and development; ensure compliance with safety protocols, quality control measures and industry standards.
  • Innovative Thinking – think innovatively to propose and implement improvements in systems design, installation techniques, build processes and fault‑finding; contribute ideas to enhance efficiency, quality and productivity in the workshop.

Qualifications and Experience
  • Deep understanding of DC power systems and PLC/CAN control architecture.
  • Experience in fault‑finding, new builds, quality control and creation of documentation for process.
  • Proficient in the use of hand tools and confident in building, fitting and fault‑finding complex systems and components to a high standard.
  • Able to work from drawings and work instructions, complete documentation when required.
  • Computer literate with basic knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Desirable: City & Guilds, HNC or HND qualification in Electrical, Electronic Engineering or Marine Engineering, or extended experience in an automotive or marine environment.
  • Able to fault‑find and fix mechanical, hydraulic systems.
  • Able to use AutoCad, Inventor and other 3‑D software.
Working Conditions

The role will primarily be based in the Sub Sea Craft office in Portsmouth, UK, with the requirement to travel to our Portland facility in Dorset during trials. The position may involve work in a manufacturing environment and at sea during trials, which may present physical challenges and require adherence to safety protocols.

Security Requirements

Due to the nature of work undertaken at Sub Sea Craft, the selected candidate must be capable of meeting the security requirements of the position, which would include at a minimum:

  • Existing right to live and work in the UK.
  • Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), with Security Check likely for specific projects.
