Building Safety Manager

Join our team as a Building Safety Manager, where you will be pivotal in developing and embedding changes to our compliance approach arising from the Building Safety Bill and emerging requirements from the Building Safety Regulator. This role is responsible for leading and managing building safety, repairs, and improvements across all Manchester City Council Housing Services stock, ensuring compliance with statutory and non-statutory building safety responsibilities.
Day-to-Day of the Role
- Lead the overall management of building safety, repairs, and improvements on both strategic and operational levels.
- Provide professional advisory services across all areas of building safety management.
- Manage and coordinate building compliance programs, including fire safety, asbestos, gas safety, electrical safety, and more.
- Implement and coordinate fire safety, evacuation, and security arrangements to ensure a safe and compliant working environment.
- Manage building safety files and ensure good housekeeping practices throughout the building.
- Serve as the named competent person for building safety, promoting ownership and responsibility among all staff.
- Attend and contribute to contractor, consultant, and procurement meetings related to building works.
- Ensure adherence to all relevant Health and Safety legislation and Building Regulations.
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with internal teams, external contractors, and stakeholders like the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Relevant qualifications in Asset Management, Construction, and/or Fire Safety.
- Thorough understanding of the Fire Safety Regulatory Reform Order 2005 and Building Safety Act 2020.
- Experience in project management and team leadership, with a strong ability to manage change.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and influencing skills.
- Strong customer focus with an understanding of the impacts of services on residents.
- Knowledge of legal requirements, building construction, maintenance industries, and fire safety management.
- Proficiency in IT systems and the ability to produce clear and concise reports.
