Job summary

Wolverhampton Homes Ltd is seeking a Building Safety Manager to lead on building safety, compliance, and improvement across high-risk buildings. You will work with senior stakeholders to ensure legislative compliance, oversee safety cases, risk assessments, and emergency planning, and drive safety improvements citywide.

The role requires extensive building safety experience, relevant fire safety qualifications, and strong leadership and communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Extensive experience in building safety, fire safety, or compliance.
  • Strong knowledge of Building Safety Act and Fire Safety Order.
  • Experience managing risk in complex, high-risk environments.
  • Proven ability to lead teams and influence across a large organisation.
  • Excellent communication skills; ability to explain technical information clearly.
  • Proactive, solutions-focused with strong decision-making.

Responsibilities

  • Acting as a duty holder to ensure HRB building safety on behalf of the Principal Accountable Person.
  • Leading on compliance with building safety legislation.
  • Working with the Building Safety Regulator and internal stakeholders to maintain compliance.
  • Overseeing fire risk assessments, safety cases, and emergency planning.
  • Managing specialist teams and ensuring contractors meet required safety standards.
  • Engaging with residents to promote safety awareness and respond to concerns.
  • Driving improvements across safety systems, processes, and reporting.

Hours: 37 hours per week (Attend site and meetings outside normal working hours to meet service needs, as required)

About The Role

This is a key leadership role at Wolverhampton Homes, focused on ensuring our buildings are safe, compliant, and fit for the future. As Building Safety Manager, you’ll lead on all aspects of building safety across our High-Risk Buildings (HRBs), ensuring compliance with the Building Safety regime and wider legislation. Working closely with senior stakeholders, you’ll drive continuous improvement, influence strategy, and play a vital role in protecting our customers and communities.

What you’ll be doing:
  • Acting as a duty holder to ensure HRB building safety on behalf of the Principal Accountable Person

About You

We’re looking for a confident and credible leader with strong technical expertise and a passion for improving safety standards.

You’ll bring:

  • Extensive experience in building safety, fire safety, or compliance within housing or a similar environment
  • Strong knowledge of relevant legislation (e.g. Building Safety Act, Fire Safety Order)
  • Experience managing risk in complex, high-risk environments
  • Proven ability to lead teams and influence across a large organisation
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical information clearly
  • A proactive, solutions-focused approach with strong decision-making skills

Relevant professional qualifications in fire safety or building safety (such as the Level 4 Diploma in Fire Safety or Level 5 Fire Engineering Design) are essential.
