Job summary

SOCOTEC UK Building and Real Estate division is seeking a Building Safety Consultant with a focus on fire safety. You will deliver fire safety design, inspection, and advisory services while managing projects and client relationships.

The role requires a background in fire safety engineering, knowledge of UK regulations, and Chartered status or progression towards chartership, with 5–10 years’ consultancy experience. You will mentor junior consultants and contribute to team development.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Fire Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or related field.
• Master's degree preferred.
• Chartered status with a relevant professional body (e.g., IFE, CIBSE, IMechE) or working towards chartership.
• Minimum 5-10 years of current experience in fire safety engineering and consultancy.
• Proven track record of managing fire safety projects and client relationships.
• Experience across various building types and sectors.
• In-depth knowledge of UK building regulations and fire safety codes.

We are seeking a proactive, reliable, and flexible Building Safety Consultant to join our Building Safety team. In this role, you'll need the confidence to work independently, alongside the ability to collaborate effectively as part of a team. A background in fire safety engineering, along with knowledge of relevant legislation and fire safety standards, is essential to thrive in this position.

The tasks you will undertake will include (but are not limited to):

• Delivering fire safety design, inspection, and advisory services

To be a successfulBuilding Safety Consultant, you should be able to demonstrate:

Academic Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Fire Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related field
• Master's degree preferred

Professional Qualifications:

• Chartered status with a relevant professional body (e.g., IFE, CIBSE, IMechE) or working towards chartership
• Minimum 5-10 years of current experience in fire safety engineering and consultancy

Experience Requirements:

• Proven track record of managing fire safety projects and client relationships
• Experience working across various building types and sectors
• Demonstrated ability to deliver fire safety strategies, risk assessments, and regulatory compliance advice

Additional Requirements:

• In-depth knowledge of UK building regulations, fire safety codes, and international standards
• Understanding of fire engineering principles and performance-based design approaches
• Experience in both new build and refurbishment projects
• Familiarity with multidisciplinary project delivery and coordination
