Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council is seeking a Building Safety & Compliance Officer to lead asbestos and water hygiene management. You will coordinate asbestos reinspection programmes, oversee surveys, and maintain the asbestos register while ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.

The role requires experience in health and safety inspections, strong knowledge of asbestos management, and the ability to work well in a team with initiative.

Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council is a small Council with big values. We are currently looking for a Building Safety & Compliance Officer to support our busy safety & compliance team. You will play a key role in ensuring NBBC meets its compliance responsibilities and that our buildings meet the highest safety standards.

With a focus on asbestos and water safety you will be responsible for managing programmes of work and inspection schedules. Ensuring actions are followed up and evidenced appropriately.

As a Building Safety & Compliance Officer you will take the lead in all aspects of asbestos and water hygiene management. This will include:

• Managing and coordinating our asbestos reinspection programme.
• Implementing and coordinating surveys and assessments ensuring they are recorded appropriately.
• Ensuring our asbestos register is managed effectively and kept up to date.
• Preparing related data for regulator and KPI reporting
• Carrying out asbestos and other inspections as required.
• Ensuring NBBC’s compliance with relevant health safety regulations.
• Supporting with investigating incidents and near misses

We are looking for people who have experience within a health and safety environment ideal with some experience dealing with asbestos from either a practical or management perspective.

You should have good knowledge of relevant health and safety legislation and be comfortable using Microsoft office packages such as Word and Excel.

You will need to be comfortable working as part of a team and using your own initiative whilst having a keen eye for attention to detail.

This is a fast paced environment and the ability to balance competing priorities is also essential.

To be successful in this post you should have the following experience:

• Experience of undertaking health and safety related inspections
• Experience of communicating with people at various levels
• Knowledge of, and ability to interpret current health and safety legislation
• Understanding of asbestos management.

You should have (or be willing to work towards) the following qualifications:

• NEBOSH General certificate
• P400 and P405 Duty to Manage Asbestos
