Job summary

Mears Group in Thurrock is seeking a proactive Building Maintenance Supervisor to oversee planned, cyclical, and responsive repairs across tenanted properties. This hands-on leadership role requires strong operational oversight and excellent customer care.

You will manage trades, inspect works, ensure quality and safety, and report on progress using PDA systems and Excel. The role demands effective communication and robust scheduling across multiple teams.

Qualifications

• Full valid UK manual driving licence.
• Experience in the duties listed above.
• Experience in management of properties.
• Experience in scoping works and coding on scheduler rates.
• Proven experience supervising operatives in repairs/maintenance.
• Trade background with hands-on building maintenance knowledge.
• Experience managing subcontractors and coordinating multi-trade teams.
• Ability to inspect and assess against quality standards.
• Comfortable working at height and inspecting scaffolding-based works.
• Strong understanding of planned, cyclical, and responsive repair programmes.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proficient with PDA systems and Excel for reporting.
• Strong customer focus and service excellence.
• Organisational and planning skills to meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Conduct pre- and post-inspections on internal and external properties
• Inspect works at height including doors, windows, and snagging on scaffolding
• Supervise and coordinate tradespeople and subcontractors across multiple workstreams
• Ensure all works meet industry standards and building regulations
• Log works and generates reports using PDA systems and Excel
• Provide excellent customer care and resolve issues professionally
• Monitor productivity, resource allocation, and contract profitability
• Conduct regular site visits to assess progress, quality, and compliance
• Compile management reports on operational activities and performance
• Ensure adherence to health and safety protocols and company operating procedures
