Responsibilities

  • Investigate all Housing Disrepair claims and Personal Injury claims through detailed interviews.
  • Monitor Housing Department claims/reports related to damp issues and report trends to Senior Management.
  • Serve as the designated Expert Witness for court cases and prepare all relevant legal documents.

Role Summary

The Post Holder will be the Lead Officer for the department and should be experienced in the management of all the aspects and procedures to determine legal liability and defend the Authority to minimise the financial risk to the Authority for Disrepair claims, Personal Injury claims, Statutory Nuisance along with tenant compensation claims and possess the ability to analyse data to make decisions in difficult situations exercising initiative to resolve issues as it is essential to the primary purpose of the post to minimise financial risk to the Authority.

Responsibilities
  • The Post Holder will be the Lead Officer for the department and should be experienced in the management of all the aspects and procedures to determine legal liability and defend the Authority to minimise the financial risk to the Authority for Disrepair claims, Personal Injury claims, Statutory Nuisance along with tenant compensation claims and possess the ability to analyse data to make decisions in difficult situations exercising initiative to resolve issues as it is essential to the primary purpose of the post to minimise financial risk to the Authority.
  • The Post Holder will undertake detailed specialist surveys to dwellings, prepare contract specifications and manage contractors undertaking remedial works, ensuring that quality standards are achieved and that full compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements is maintained and
  • The Post Holder will thoroughly investigate all Housing Disrepair claims and allocated Personal Injury claims involving carrying out detailed interviews with claimants to prepare detailed reports for Insurers and Solicitors, and be the Instructing Officer for the department in the negotiation of settlements in all Housing Disrepair claims and allocated Personal Injury claims.
  • The Post Holder will be responsible for monitoring all Housing Department claims/reports in relation to damp issues including reporting on the current situation and trends to Senior Management.
  • The Post Holder will be the designated Expert Witness and attend court in support of the Council’s case and will ensure the provision of all disclosure documentation, witness statements, legal file preparation, notice of completion of works, rent accounts and any other relevant information.
