Job description

Position: Teaching Assistant - BSL Specialist (Full-time)

Location: West Derby, Liverpool

Start Date: January 2026 - July 2026

Salary: £98 – £110 per day (Salary dependent on experience and qualifications)

Aspire People are working with a caring and inclusive primary school in West Derby, who are seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant with a British Sign Language (BSL) qualification to join their team on a full-time basis from January 2026.

This rewarding role will involve providing dedicated one-to-one support for a child with hearing impairment, helping them to fully access the curriculum and thrive within the school environment. The school is passionate about inclusion and is committed to ensuring every child feels supported, valued, and able to succeed.

The role
  • Offering 1:1 support to a child with hearing impairment throughout the school day.
  • Using British Sign Language (BSL) to aid communication, understanding, and engagement in lessons.
  • Supporting the child with accessing learning materials, instructions, and classroom discussions.
  • Working closely with the class teacher and SENDCo to implement tailored support strategies.
  • Assisting with adapting resources and activities to ensure full participation.
  • Encouraging independence, confidence, and positive social interactions.
  • Promoting an inclusive learning environment where the child feels safe, supported, and able to achieve.
What we're looking for
  • A qualified Teaching Assistant with a BSL qualification (minimum Level 2 preferred).
  • Experience supporting children with hearing impairment or additional communication needs.
  • Strong communication skills, including confident use of British Sign Language.
  • A patient, empathetic, and nurturing approach to supporting children.
  • The ability to work closely with teaching and SEND staff to deliver effective support.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
  • The ability to provide two professional references.
  • A valid Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
