Broadcast Support Engineer

12-month FTC | Full-time

Office location: Gateshead (occasional travel to our Leeds office as required).

This is primarily an on-site role, but some work can be done from home.

The role

ITV Signpost is an award‑winning production unit in the North East of England that is part of ITV, producing more than 1,500 hours of content every year for broadcasters, businesses, commercial brands and digital channels. We are also an award‑winning production company, creating a number of commissions with a focus on diversity.

We are currently looking for a Broadcast Support Engineer based in Gateshead (with some travel to Leeds). This role will work as part of ITV Signpost's Technical Team and assist in all aspects of the development and implementation of technical production solutions, along with operational technical support.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Contribute to the development of technical solutions within a busy studio/post‑production facility.
  • Support the technical equipment, software and services used within our busy studio environment to minimise downtime
  • Work with the Senior Technical Development Specialist to optimise studio workflows as part of an ongoing system of improvement and efficiencies.
  • Keep abreast of any advances in the media production industry and work to integrate them into the work the department does.
  • Work with sensitive and confidential content from a variety of internal and external clients in a discreet, respectful and confidential manner.
  • Carry out project work in accordance with the requirements and deadlines defined by ITV Signpost Management and the Senior Technical Development Specialist.
  • Develop an understanding of the workflows of other team members within a diverse and multi‑skilled media environment to better support them.
Skills you'll need (minimum criteria)
  • Be aware of various video and audio media file formats and their practical uses. Ideally, knowledge of modern broadcast technical specifications.
  • Demonstrate a keen eye for detail and problem‑solving skills
  • Knowledge of Telestream Vantage/Vidchecker, Broadstream Polistream/Media Mate/WinCaps, CineXtools, Dell EMC Isilon systems or Airtable
Other things we're looking for (key criteria)
  • Desirable - a BSL qualification or a keen willingness to learn BSL
  • Attention to detail in all aspects of work and ability to check and regulate own standard of work with an organised and methodical approach.
  • The ability to work alone, using own initiative as well as being an effective team player and good communicator.
  • Willingness to work out of hours where required, including evenings and weekends.
  • Proactive organisational skills with the ability to time manage and prioritise workloads, delivering to tight deadlines and adhering to schedules.
  • A strong commitment to social inclusion, accessibility and diversity.
  • Self‑motivated to be multi‑skilled and prepared to invest time to learn and develop new skills.
  • Broad‑based general knowledge and be familiar with conventional sources of reference and the internet for research.

You will be a member of a multi‑skilled team of D/deaf and hearing professionals producing on‑screen sign language translation. Signpost may schedule work across a seven‑day week in order to meet business requirements. Work outside normal office hours at different locations may be required to meet delivery schedules.
