A local government authority in Scotland is seeking a British Sign Language Tutor. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching BSL in educational settings and providing training for parents and staff. Experience in teaching adults and engaging with families is essential. The position is open to part‑time and job share options, offering a salary between £33,287 and £39,129 for 36 hours per week over 39 weeks.

This position is part of the Deaf Support Team. The BSL tutor will:
Applicants must have experience teaching BSL to adults and working/engaging effectively with families and their deaf children. They must possess fluent BSL skills to SCQF 8 or above, or equivalent.
Shortlisted candidates will be required to provide a sample lesson plan as part of a writing assessment before the interview. A reading assessment and BSL skills test will also be required as part of the in‑person interview.

Regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will need to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. If an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more outside the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. An unconditional offer and commencement in the post will be subject to satisfactory outcomes of both checks.

Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range.
